You can make sev- eral with ease, string them on ribbons, and hang them on a hook in your closet. All you need for the but- terfly sacks are fabric, eyelet and ribbon scraps. Butterflies are simply squares, stuffed with sa- chet, and tied at the center. You can purchase pot- pourri at variety, gift or craft shops, or dry flowers from your garden. If you add scented oil to your home -dried petals, your potpourri will remain sweet-smelling for a long time. Here are directions for a string of butterfly sachets: MATERIALS: Cotton or cotton -blend fabric scraps; Skinny ribbon, about %- inch wide; 3 -yard of eyelet, about %-inch wide; %-yard of velvet, satin or grosgrain ribbon, about 1% -inch wide; Curtain ring sewing supplies; potpourri. PREPARATION: 1. Cut two 4 -inch squares of fab- ric. 2. Sew long gathering stitches close to one edge of eyelet. 3. Gather eyelet to fit around square. 4. Baste eyelet to right side of one square. ASSEMBLY: 1. With right sides facing, stitch both squares together. Leave 6 inches open for turning. 2. Turn square to right side. 3. Stuff lightly with potpourri. FINISHING: 1. Sew opening closed with tiny hem stitches. 2. Bring 3 - inch ribbon around center, pull tightly, and tie in a bow. This will turn your square into a butterfly shape. HANGER: 1. Notch one end of wide ribbon. 2. Turn other end over ring. Stitch in place._ 3. Stitch butterfly sachets to ribbon.
