Curtain a Window
with Plants
If the view from one of your win-
dows is dreary, cover it with a
collection of small plants which
thrive indoors. Apart from pro-
viding an exotic display of
greenery, this arrangement
allows apartment dwellers to
cultivate flowers or herbs which
would otherwise need a
garden.
Erect a pair of adjustable shelf
standards with brackets
(bought from your Home Hard-
ware) on the sides of your
window -frame. Choose glass
shelves to let through as much
Iifht as possible to all layers.
Make them adjustable to ac-
comodate plants of different
heights and removeable so the
windows and shelves are easy
to clean.

Garden Rows
To get the most advantage
from the sun run your garden
rows from East to West if
possible.

Improving Old Panelled
Doors you can modernize
while improving the insulating
quality and fire resistance by
glueing and nailing 1/8" hard-
board to both sides of an old
panelled 'door.
Remove the hinges and lock
from the door. Fill the 4 panels
on each side first with the 118"
hardboard- Then, glue arid nail-•
a door -sized piece to each side
of the door. The extra thickness
of the door may mean you
have to re -hang the door fur-
ther away from the door stop
by extending the hinge
recesses in the door frame.
Now - a 1983 door.
