With all apologies to Dave
Hodge, Don Chevrier and all
the other gentlemen who
profess to know something
about sports and try to pass
that knowledge on to CBC
viewers, some new beauty is
about to be added to CBC
Television sports events.
Ann Rohmer has joined the
CBC as a sports com-
mentator and begins her new
duties on May 21 and 22 when
she will be behind the
microphone for the Labatt's
Canadian Superstars
competition at Ontario
Place. She then will head
west for the 1983 World
University Games in
Edmonton in July. She will
.11so rt... sports interviews anr'
will be seen on Sports -
weekend on Saturday after-
noons.
Ann first came before the
public on the Global
Television Network where
she was a co -host of "That's
Life". The vivacious blonde
impressed people with her
on -camera charm and poise
and her talent as an in-
terviewer. She has a special
fondness for sports, having
been an accomplished figure
skater when she was in her
teens (she is now 26) and
involved in several kinds of
athletics in school. She also
recently announced her
engagement to skiing star
Steve Podborski so she
should be able to talk about
that sport knowledgeably.
With her keen intelligence
and /boundless energy, Ann
Rohmer should be a
welcome addition to CBC
Sports. She will do her
research well and add
sparkle to any telecast on
which she appears.

Radio City Music Hall in
New York City was packed
with friends and fans as a
gigantic birthday party was
hosted by the city in honor of
Bob Hope who marked his
80th year Hope has done it
all, • beginning with
vaudeville and covering the
wide spectrum through
radio, television' and the
movies. He especially
became known for his trips
overseas each Christmas to
entertain troups in the far
corners of the world.
Many old friends were
back to entertain Bob at his
'birthday party and wife
Delores, who gave up a
singing career when she
married Bob, sang her own
tribute with the words, "I
love you just the way you
are". If ever there wrs a
woman who stood behind her
man, it was Delores. She was
the one who stayed home and
maintained some kind of
continuity in the lives of their
four children, Tony, Linda,
Kelly and Norah. Home was
always there to return to, the
strong foundation needed to
nurture a family was
provided by the lovely
woman who was Bob's wife.
It's difficult to imagine
this great man is 80., He has
always been the same. And
his brand of humor has
always been timely. We're
glad New York honored this
great entertainer while he
was still able to enjoy the
tribute.
