Journalist, Borden Spears
dies in his 71st year
A distinguished Canadian
journalist, Borden Spears,
passed away Thursday,
March 17, in Toronto, in his
71st year.
Mr. Spears was a native of
Pine Lake, Alberta, but
came to Ontario as a youth.
He graduated .from
University of Western
Ontario and began his career
with the Toronto Star which,
throughout the years, he
served as photo editor,
Ottawa ' correspondent, city
editor, .managing editor,
foreign correspondent,
ombudsman and senior
editor. He was also a
member of the 1980 Kent
royal-" commission on
newspapers and had served
as editor of the Financial
