Natural beauty
Priscilla Barnes
By COLETTE BOUCHEZ
Anyone who takes just
one look at the lovely
,PRISCILLA BARNES,, who
portrays the bubbly Terry
on longtime hit show
"Three's Company," will
attest to the fact that she is
indeed a natural beauty. A
very modest Priscilla,
however, considers herself
more along the lines of
someone who has achieved
beauty naturally using
some of Mother Nature's
own products.
"I'm a real fanatic about
finding natural beauty
remedies," says Priscilla,
"because I just don't like
most of the items out on
the market. A few are
good, but you can go broke
trying different things until
you come upon the ones
that agree with you. I've
learned that the things you
make up yourself really do
work the best."
When in California, Pris-
cilla finds that her skin be-
comes exceptionally dry.
To combat the effects of
not only the hot sun, but
hours spent under hot tele-
vision lights (both of which
rob your skin of moisture,
the one thing that stands
between you and wrinkles),
she's discovered garlic and
sesame seed oil does the
trick.
"I've found that chopped
garlic marinated in sesame
seed oil to be one of the
best moisturizers in .the
world. You just mix them
together and place them in
ti the refrigerator in a tightly
capped jar for six months
before using. This gives
time for the smell to eva-
porate and allows the mar-
inating process to take
place.
"When the mixture is
ready, you smooth it on
your face twice a week,
after cleansing and before
toning, and you leave it on
for about 20 minutes. Six
months may seem like a
long time to wait to try
something but it's really
worth it. It performs mira-
cles on dry skin and practi-
cally erases all the tiny
lines around your eyes."
If you want more imme-
diate results you may want
to try Priscilla's honey fa-
cial, which I personally en-
dorse with the highest hon-
ors.
"All you do," says this
blonde beauty, "is coat
your face with ordinary
honey. Then, with the mid-
dle and forefinger of each
hand gently tap your skin
until the honey turns a
clear white, and then rinse
with warm, followed by
cool water. What this
does," she continues "is re-
move all the impurities
from your skin and leave it
soft and very moisturized.
It is especially good for a
complexion that has a
tendency to blotch. And be-
cause it increases circula-
tion, it helps to even out
skin tone as well as tex-
ture."
Another one of Priscil-
la's softening secrets is av-
ocado and cucumber
masks, which work pe-
cially well in warm weath-
er when swimming in salt
water or chlorine pools
tend to irritate and dry the
skin.
"You just mash them up
real fine," she says, "and
cover your face with either
mixture for about 20 min-
utes., Not only does this
moisturize the skin but it
helps to heal chapped
areas as well."
If you prefer using com-
mercial preparations to
those you make at thome,
Priscilla suggests you
choose your cleansers,
toners and moisturizers
from the same product line
PRISCILLA BARNES
.. Honey keeps her
sweet and glowing
.ry
for maximum results.
She says, "I have found..
that if all three products
come from not only the
same manufacturer but the
same line as well, the over-
all results are better and
the products enhance each
other. If you can, try to
find sample sizes and
whatever you do, if it
doesn't work for you, throw
it out. If you have a tenden-
cy to save things, as I do,
you end up with a lot of
clutter and a drawer full of
things you'll never use."
In addition to Priscilla's
"clutter rule" you should
also remember that al-
though cosmetics and
beauty preparations are
not generally required by
law„ to -L carry expiration
dates, like vitamins, they
'do have a shelf life. If a
product is old it can do
your skin more harm than
good. Plus, if it has been
opened it can easily be-
come contaminated and
cause bacteria to settle in
your pores. This may result
in anything from black-
heads to blemishes to skin
discoloration.
SUPER BEAUTY HINT
One of the latest innova-
tions in eye makeup came
about with the rebirth of
the eye pencil, all revved
up with 1980s pizazz.
Whereas eye pencils of
yesteryear were thin, with
hard leads and used prima-
rily for brows, the new eye
"crayons" (as they are
called) are thick and soft
and used to create all kinds
of wonderful new looks for
spring.
Besides being simple to
use and convenient to
carry, one of the nice
things about this product is
that you can achieve a va-
riety of different looks as
well as different shades
form a single pencil.
When sharpened to a fine
point they make an excel-
lent liner for both the out-
side as well as inside of the
rim of the eye.
When smudged with a Q-
Tip the look turns smoky

Mice plagued Canada
Canada's eastern provinc-
es experienced several pla-
gues of field mice during the
1700s. Millions of the tiny
creatures would descend on
a region and consume all the
food in their path before
dying from winter's cold.
The Prince Edward Island
town of Souris — the French
word for mouse — was actu-
ally named for the 17th cen-
tury mouse plagues.

WHAT IS
CORONARY
BYPASS SURGERY?
Coronary artery bypass surgery im
proves the blood supply to the heart
muscle when narrowed coronary ar
teries have reduced the flow of oxy

This reduction in blood flow may
cause chest pain and lead to an in,.
creased risk of heart attack Cor
onary artery bypass surgery involves
constructing detours for the blood to
bypass obstructed portions of cor

cle supplied. Non-essential veins
taken from other parts of the body,
Usually the legs, are grafted onto the
cironary arteries to provide detours
around the obstructed area. Contact
