Promoting peace composer's aim A Kitchener composer is trying to compete with our politicians in an attempt to create peace in the world and brotherly love among its people. Walter Scholtes, a Ger- man-speaking music teacher from Romania, joined the Waterloo Music Company in 1949, working there until his retirement (1979) as com- poser and arranger, but mainly as music engraver, producing negatives for music printing. Being conversant to a fair extent with the folklore of all ethnic groups, he recently planned to publish some works on that subject under the firm name and with the object "Canadian Mosaic Music Publications", trying to incorporate their cultural assets into the general Can- adian culture. The main objective of that firm will be the creation of mutual understanding be- tween Canadian peoples. As a fitting introduction to such activity the record is .called "Christianityjs Prayer of Peace'. Besides the more complex choral work with its three movements, (1. In fear and in distress we live, 2. The Prayer, 3. The joyous thanks for peace received) the record contains other songs of brotherly love, and scrip- ture reading Cor. 1I. 13, the well-known and unsurpassed praise of love by the Apostle Paul. Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, at a music festival some years ago, said, "Both you musicians and we poli- ticians strive for harmony but, while you, the musicians almost always achieve that goal, we politicians hardly ever do." Musically, the composer has surely achieved his clas- sical "harmony" Whether he'll achieve that other kind, to make us love our fellow man, will depend on our own good will. Locally the record is avail- able atthe following stores: in Mount. Forest at Stedmans and the Gospel Book Nook; in Listowel at Modern Appli- ance and Sorensen's Music Centre and in Milverton at Mini -Mart. 10:30 The Half -a -Handy Hour 11:00 Pins and Needles.
