Cr® insure ce
salesman hono
There's more to the suc-
cessful selling of crop in-
surance than meets the eye.
Just ask Niel Edgar of RR 3,
Wingham.
He'll tell you it takes ac-
tive promotion, good timing,
modesty, sincerity and, most
of all, an ability to talk to
people.
That may be why he
recently was' honored for
having the highest new sales
in this area for crop in-
surance. Last year he sold
687 endorsements represent-
ing $5.6 million in liability
coverage for 42,500 acres.'
Seven years._ ago Mr.
Edgar started with three or
four endorsements. In his
first year he brought that
figure up to 74. At that time
he was working part-time
and selling crop insurance in
only one township. Now he
services five townships.
"I have a positive
philosophy about selling,"
said Mr. Edgar. "You can't
sell anything if you talk
doom and gloom."
Crop insurance provides
protection for farm crops
covering weather-related
losses. The farmer's
premium is matched by the
federal government, and
Ontario pays the ad-
ministrative costs of the
program. - The program is
designed to compensate the
farmer for out-of-pocket or
cash costs in case of crop
failure.
