The slate of officers was ac- cepted at the annual meeting of the branch, held February 22 in the township clerk's office. Other officers include: first vice president, Mrs. Wiliam Thornton of Gorrie; recording secretary, Mrs. Ruth Galbraith, Gorrie; treasurer, Mrs. Sandra Edgar, Wroxeter; loan cupboard, Wesley Ball, Gorrie; Water Safety, Beverley Currah and Lionel Johnston; blood donor chairman, Norman Wilson, Fordwich; youth services, Dennis Dosman, Gorrie; first aid, Mrs. Sandra Edgar; water safety for small craft, Donald Watson, Gorrie; campaign, Mrs. Nellie Taylor, Gorrie, Mrs. Cecil Wilson, Fordwich, Mrs. William Woodley, Wroxeter; liaison officer for tracing and reunion of missing relatives, Mrs. Arthur Gibson, Wroxeter. Wes Ball was asked to chair the meeting due to the resignation of Miss _Margaret Dane, because of illness. He thanked the executive members for their work, the canvassers who so willingly accept this task each year and the volunteers in all areas. The secretary's report was read by Mrs. Galbraith who reported that Red Cross bulletins and other literature were given to the chairmen of the various committees. Mrs. Alex Taylor, cam-, paign chairman for 1982, stated that the ,branch's quota of $1,500 was not fully met but she is hopeful the challenge of 1983 will be met. "If 100 families in the township were to each give $10.00, the rest giving what they can afford, we could do. it!", Mrs. Taylor stated. Mrs. Edgar gave the treasurer's report, stating that $1,350.50 was sent to Ontario Division Headquar- ters. Mr. Ball, chairman of the loan cupboard, gave his report, stating the loan cup- board is being well used. As usual, Wes will open the cup- board- at any time when needed. Articles are loaned free and can be used as long as needed. If they are needed more than three months, patients are asked to call and have the loan renewed. He reported that three good wheelchairs are constantly in use and one more is needed. He was authorized to order this chair and tendered a vote of appreciation e meeting. Mrs. Edgar report t the community centres and parks will be supplied, as usual, with .first aid kits., If any are in need: of ,,supplies, Mrs. Edgar may be con- tacted at 335-3436. A quota of $1,700 was accepted by the meeting for the annual canvas in March, members agreeing that, while people throughout the world are in great need, there is also great need in this country as so many jobless people are being helped. The executive members are fully aware of the great work the Optimists are doing in holding Red Cross Blood Donor Clinics in the township in the past two years; also their efforts in transporting the children to the swimming pool in Gorrie where they are taught swimming and water safety. The Lions Club of Howick takes charge of this area of Red Cross effort, under qualified Red Cross instructors. O Seniors' Day Centre News By Pam Williams The month of March has begun and this month will be focussed on nutrition in Ontario. I hope you all will gain a better understanding of nutrition this month. The slogan from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food is: "Choose nutrition now — it pays!" Thursday at the centre, Paula Blagrave, the dietician at the hospital will be the guest speaker. She will speak about nutrition and may touch on what to do if you're a diabetic. Rev. Paul Mills, the minister from St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, was the guest speaker last Wednesday. He gave a very interesting talk which was helpful for the people who are not able to get to church �.; regularly. This week, the Tuesday group went bowling at the Wingham Bowling Lanes.. Some of the seniors are getting quite attached to the sport. The next foot clinic will be March 16 and the flea market will be Saturday, April 30. On March 26, there will be a fitness conference at the .town hall and the Armouries. It is a special conference which will provide information on the physically active recreation program for older adults. The conference is sponsored by the Lake Huron Zone Recreation Association. Doug Lafreniere is the fit- ness coordinator. It should be an interesting and in- formative conference. Would any members of the community be willing to provide some entertainment for our program on St. Patrick's Day?. Induct rector at service in Fordwich FORDWICH — About 250 were in attendance for the induction service for Rev. William Thomas Gray as rector of St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Gorrie, and Trinity Anglican Church, Fordwich, which was held in Trinity Church on Sunday evening. The inductor for the ser- vice was Ven. Charles Robert Townshend, Arch- deacon of South Saugeen. The sermon was given by Canon Robert William Arnold Birtch, rector of Cambridge Trinity Church. There were 16 Anglican rectors in attendance, also Rev. Sy Marzec of Fordwich and Kurtzville United Churches. Misses Sheila Daunt and Dianne Shelley sang a duet, accompanied by Mrs. Hugh Douglas at the organ. Following the service, a social time was enjoyed. JUNIOR SPEAKERS—Willis Hall, past president of the Wingham Legion, presented the trophy for the junior elementary competition at last Saturday's public speak- ing contest, held at the Legion. Bill Grant from the Wingham Public School captured first prize, while Lori Belanger from Sacred Heart in Wingham was second and Heather Hopper from East Wawanosh Public School was third. Last Tuesday, when Mrs. Alice Moore was nearing the restaurant, she heard a robin singing and she stopped and said she could see it in a tree nearby. Mr. and Mrs. Rob Frank, Jamie and Robbie of Teeswater, were Sunday visitors with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gibson. Mr. and Mrs. Kirk Beecroft, Angela, Jennifer and Janice of Exeter, visited Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Beecroft.and Karen. Other Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Beecroft were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sin- namon and Bradley of Brodhagen and 1{en Sin- namon of Wingham, as well as Hugh Sinnamon from across the road. -Mr. and Mrs. Bill Glover of Sarnia were Sunday visitors with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Milligan. Last Wednesday evening, representatives of a store from Hanover were at Mrs. Wallace Milligan's and set up a .display of ready-made large size dresses. There was a group of around 35 present to try on the dresses. Last Wednesday, Mrs. Pat Donnelly, Angela and Jill of Toronto, visited with her parents, . Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Milligan. Mr. and Mrs. Orland Irwin were in London at Victoria Hospital Sunday to visit with his mother, Mrs. Viola Irwin. A party to celebrate Timmy Falconer's, Mrs. Norma Falconer's and Mrs. Wesley Tiffin's birthdays was het& last Saturday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Angus Falconer. Present were: Mr. and Mrs. Alan Falconer, Timmy, Tony and Amy, Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Falconer, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Tiffin and Mrs. Cassie Mowbray. To celebrate birthdays, Mr. and Mrs. Orland Irwin, Donald and Michael, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Laidlaw, Kim- berley and Don Nicholson of Blyth spent Sunday evening as guests of Mr. and Mrs. tiayton Alton, Lynn and ne of Ashfield. This Saturday at Carson's sales barn, a sale of polled Hereford cattle will be held at the barn east of Listowel at 1 p.m. for Brian Rintoul. Cathy Purdon of Toronto spent last weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Purdon, she was accompanied on the return trip by Rod Lamb, student preacher, and other visitors on the return trip to Toronto. Jack Whytock had charge of 'the service at the United Church Sundays' Rev. Gord Pickett of Goderich will be in charge of the services this Sunday: Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McMillan of Sarnia and her mother, Mrs. Isobel Tiffin of Lucknow, were Saturday visitors with, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Tiffin. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Scholtz of Mr. and Mrs. visited last week with Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Laidlaw. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ducharme of Goderich visited last Tuesday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Laidlaw. An error was made in last week's news when it was stated Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Rintoill had visited with Mr. and Mrs. Bradley Speiran and Susan of Brussels. Mrs. Gertrude Tiffin of Wingham arrived home last Friday night from Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Ted McClenaghan of Kitchener spent the weekend with Mildred McClenaghan. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Moss of Plattsville visited a few days last week with Mrs. Mary McClenaghan and Mr. and Mrs. Carl McClenaghan. Mr. and Mr -s. Gordon Rintoul attended the skating carnival at Lucknow last Saturday night. In the beginners' class, Kevin Rintoul and Stewart were dressed as cowboys and Susan Bieman was dressed as a cowgirl. Steven and Scott Rintoul were dressed as railroad men and Blair Bieman was a pioneer.
