MacEwen dies following a long illness A longtime resident of the village of Molesworth, Gordon Allen MacEwen, passed away last Friday, Jan. 21 in the Wingham and District Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 82 years of age. He was predeceased by his parents, John MacEwen and Ellen McIntosh. Left to mourn his passing is one sister, Mrs. Margaret White . of London; and, one nephew, Neil Johnston of Sarnia. The late Mr. MacEwen rested at the Gorrie chapel of The M. L. Watts Funeral Home until ..Monday when Rev. Paul Mills of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church , Wingham, con- ducted funeral services at 2 p.ne Interment will be in Molesworth Cemetery. Albert L. Watts dies at residence Albert Lisle Watts of Belleville passed away suddenly at his home Sun- day, Jan. 23 in his 87th year. Left to mourn his passing is his wife, the former Jean McQuiggle; dear father of Pauline, Mrs. Morris Jones of Grafton, Max of Brussels and Hubert and Stephen of Belleville; 14 grandchildren and five great-grand- children. He also is survived by one brother and two sisters. The late Mr. Watts rested at the Vanclief Funeral Home, Belleville, where funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2. Interment will be in the Belleville Mausoleum. W. J. Bennett dies at age 97 A longtime resident of the Walton area, William James Bennett, passed away Thursday, Jan. 20 in the Wingham and District Hospital. He was 97 years of age. He was predeceased by both of his parents, John Bennett and Isabel Ramsey and his wife, the former Jean Barrows, in 1958. He also was predeceased by one brother and two sisters. Left to mourn his passing is ode son, Dr. John Bennett of Newmarket and one daughter, Mrs. Stewart (Mary) Humphries of Walton; four grandchildren and five great-grand- children. The late Mr. Bennett rested at the Brussels chapel of The M. L. Watts Funeral Home until funeral services were conducted Saturday, Jan. 22 by Rev. Charles Swan. Interment was in Brussels Cemetery. She was in her 86th year. Born on the 2nd of Culross on July 13, 1897, she was a daughter of the late William Caslick and Mary Harkness. She was predeceased by her husband, David McAllister (1967), a son in infancy, and two brothers, George of Stratford and Earl of Whitechurch. Left to mourn her passing are a daughter Noreen and her husband Carman Haines of Wingham, a son V!. rvin and his wife Shirley of Teeswater, two step -grand- daughters and three step - great -grandchildren. Mrs. McAllister was a member of the Teeswater United Church and the Teeswater Senior Citizens. The funeral and committal service was held at the McPherson Funeral Home, Teeswater on Jan. 18 with Rev. Arnold Proud of- ficiating, with interment later in the Teeswater Cemetery. Pallbearers were Allan Halliday, Ron Lamont, George Marshall, Hugh Armstrong, Donald Stobo and Mac Armstrong. Edythe Margaret Cardiff, Grey clerk, dies in London The clerk -treasurer of Grey Township, Edythe Margaret Cardiff of Ethel, passed away in University Hospital, London, last Tuesday, Jan. 18. She was 65 years old. She was predeceased by her parents, John Krauter and Marion Lamont. Left to mourn her passing is a dear friend, George Grey of Niagara Falls; one daughter, Mrs. Don (Sharon) Posthumus of Waterloo; one son, Ronald of Ethel; one sister, Muriel Wilson of Nepean; three Victor Shera dies in Geri -Care home A Gorrie-area native, Victor Livingstone James Shera, Drayton, passed away last Saturday, Jan. 22, in Geri -Care Nursing Home, Harriston.; He waS. 81 years of. age. • . Born in Gorrie to James Shera and Mary Hooey, he was predeceased by his parents and by his wife, the former Margaret Ellis, who passed away June 25, 1981. Left to mourn his passing is . one sister, Mrs. Lloyd (Shirley) Woods of Kit- chener; one brother, Emerson of Wingham; and, several nieces and nephews. The late Mr. Shera rested at the Gorrie chapel of The M. L. Watts Funeral Home until Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. when Rev. Norman Penrose of the Drayton United Church conducted the funeral services. Interment will be in the Gorrie Cemetery. The members of Forest Lodge ' No. 162, AF&AM conducted a memorial service Monday evening at 9 p.m. in the funeral home. Honorary pall bearers were Earl King, Cloyne Michael, Grant Schiech, Oliver Flewelling, Mallard. Hammond, Harry Bell, Sheldon Cosens and Harvey Bradshaw. DEATHS CUPSKEY—At Wingham and District Hospital on Monday, Jan. 24, 1983, Mrs. Ethel Cupskey of 47 John Street West, Wingham, in her .72nd year. The former Ethel C. Nicholson, she was the beloved wife of Sam Cupskey, mother of Gordon of Monkton and George of Alberta; sister of Archie Nicholson of Lucknow, John Nicholson of Belfast, Ont., Chester Nicholson, St. Helens, Rena (Mrs. Clay) Bustard of London, Mabel (Mrs. Oliver) Wright of Seaforth, Rae (Mrs. Charlie) Wright of Galt, Sadie (Mrs. Jack) Irwin and Mary (Mrs. Art) Thompson, both of Goderich. Also 11 grand- children and five great- grandchildren. Prede- ceased by one daughter, Marie, and two brothers, Angus and Samuel. Trinity Anglican holds meeting FORDWICH — Trinity Anglican Church held its vestry meeting last Wed- nesday night with Hugh Douglas, people's warden, acting as chairman and opening the meeting with a prayer. Mrs. Hector Browne read the minutes of the last board meeting and the correspon- dence was read. A donation was sent to St. George's Church, Kitchener, for its new basement floor which is to be put do soon. Doug Bunker, Dave Dinsmore and Hector Browne were named to the committee in charge. The rectory committee and the wardens willmeet with the Gorrie charge to purchase rugs for the rec- tory. The Great Chapter meeting is to be held sometime in February with the date to be announced later. A new rector, Rev. Bill Gray, will arrive Feb. 13 and the induction service will be held in Fordwich Sunday, Feb. 27. The church reports showed a very successful year and a vote of thanks was given to the wardens and Ron Shelley, Mrs. Doug Bunker, Mrs. Hugh Douglas and Elva Foster. Board of management members were elected at the meeting as well: rector's warden, Stewart Rowley; deputy warden, , Doug Bunker; people's warden, Hugh Douglas; deputy warden, Emerson Ferguson; vestry clerk, Mrs. Hector Browne; lay delegates to synodical, J. W. Daunt, Mrs. Emerson Ferguson; sub -lay delegates, Mrs. J. W. Daunt and Elva Foster; parish paymaster, Mrs. Vern Clarke; and, church treasurer, Mrs. Doug Bunker. Rector's board of management members are: Ron Shelley, Jim Foster, Hector Browne, Gordon Sothern, Mrs. Jack Douglas, Mrs. Ron King and Mrs. Doug Bunker; people's board of management, Dave Dinsmore, Vern Clarke, Jack Douglas, Mrs. Wally Nixon, Mrs. Bill Sothern, Mrs. Wellington Hargrave, Mrs. Stewart Rowley and Mrs. Adele Kavelman; organist, Elva Foster; assistant, Mrs. Hugh Douglas; and, auditors, Mrs. Jack Douglas and Dave Dinsmore.
