All of us have experienced
days in our lives when we
have been faced with dif-
ficult storms to weather. We
have given in to defeat or we
have stuck out our chins and
grinned and said, "The sun'Il
come up tomorrow!" And,
indeed, therealways have:
been better days ahead.
The lyrics of "Tomorrow"
came to mean something
special to.manyof us, just as
did the story of a little or-
phan girl who struggles
through life's hardships until
she finds love and security in
a New York mansion.
Last Sunday afternoon, the
curtain came down on the
final performance of
"Annie" on Broadway,
another victim of the bad
economic times. .In the last
year, many people could not
afford such luxuries as
theatre, and the attendance
dwindled.
"Annie" opened on
Broadway on April 21, 1977,
and has played every day
since, making it the seventh
longest -running musical
ever to appear on Broadway.
More than 2,300 per-
formances were presented
and it grossed 'more than
$200 million.
It also was responsible for
the movie production of the
same name, and several
touring companies doing the
show in other countries.
Manyrof these traveling
companies are still
presenting "Annie" in
theatres around the world.
One came to Kitchener's
Centre in the Square last
summer, presenting per-
formances that won the
approval of audiences and
critics.
Several little girls got the
opportunity to play the title
role in "Annie", but the
same lovable big pooch
played Sandy in all the
performances. The sudden
change in his lifestyle is
probably causing him to
have a nervous breakdown!
Producers are now
preparing a sequel to
Annie" and hoping to bring
it to Broadway next season.
The music will have to be
great to compete with that of
the first production.
"Tomorrow" will remain a
classic, whether "Annie"
remains on Broadway or not.

Tom Selleck, star of the
television series "Magnum
P.1.", and Joan Collins, who

Apple Awards, presented by
the Women's Press Club of
Hollywood. Each year the
club rewards the stars who
have been most cooperative
with the media, as well as
most newsworthy.
In new categories this
year, Phil Donahue, who
hosts his own talk'show, was
named top daytime star;
Quincy Jones was top music
star, and Lena Horne top
Broadwaystar for her one -
woman show on the' New
York stage.
