At:18:16, Mount Forest's Dave LeBlanc slid , one into the corner of the net and with only eight seconds left on the clock, MacEachern addeda little icing to the victory cake with his second goal of the game. The Mount Forest team left the ice happy with a 4-2 victory over the Royals. WHISTLE STOPS—With a good following of Mount Forest fans, the Rams certainly deserved the 'win as they appear to have jelled very quickly into a good, sound, hard-working team which has learned you dpn't win games in the penalty box. What was particularly impressive was the reform- ed play of defence pair Don Rae and' Randy. Eurig who played heads -up hockey with nary a penalty: a big im- provement over their earlier games when they got their team into trouble with numerous foolish penalties. Everyone on hand shook their heads more than once in disbelief at the heroics of Smith, the keeper of the corded cage for the Royals. He was peppered with pucks from all angles and robbed the Rams time and again as he faced more pucks than seen in Al Harrison's' puck collection. What an effort and it was just a Shame that the Royals couldn't at least have salvaged a tie on his efforts. . This was the third loss in a row for the Royals in the same fashion, letting two - goal leads slip tolosses after the end of the first. The team continues to just cling to second spot in -the league; a single point ahead of the Mildmay Monarchs. Mount Forest certainly made a clean sweep Sunday. winning the game with two of their fans taking home both the "Share the Wealth" cash prize and the pizza donated by the Pizza Train. The Royals have two big games this week as they host the Harriston Blues Friday evening at 8:30 and travel to Paisley Sunday for a 2 p.m. encounter. Let's hope the ' Royals can return to their winning ways in these two big games. Kincardine nipped by Lions Midgets 5-4 The Wingham Lions' Midgets faced off with the Kincardine Midgets Sunday night in the Lockridge Memorial Arena and came away with a 5-4 victory. Wingham drew first blood, with Mark Foxton scoring at 7:52 of the first from Tim Brown and Jim Dennis. The score remained 1-0 for Wingham until Brett Cameron scored at 3:57 of the second. Kincardine scored a minute later, but Foxton gave Wingham a 3-1 lead at 5:43, assisted by Bill Haines and Brown. ' Ed Sweeney took a neat pass from Foxton at 9:04 and increased Wingham's teau l.0 4-1 at the end of the second. Kincardine went on a scoring spree right from the opening seconds of the third period, with three straight goals to tie the game at four -all. Paul Robinson scored the winner for Wingham at 8:34, assisted by Doug McFarlan and Dennis. The final score read Wingham, five, and Kincardine, four. ICE CHIPS --Mitch Braun played a solid game in goal for Wingham in` this game. Kincardine has \one of the best Midget teams in the area, so congratulations to the Wingham Lions' Midgets for a well-deserved win. Lions win bronze medal of Kinc. Winter Games The Wingham Lions Midgets won two of their three contests at the Kincar- dine Winter Games to bring home a bronze medal for each team member. After losing 2-1 to Hanover in their opening game, the Lions came roaring back to down St. Marys 6-3 and Orangeville 10-3. Doug Wood scored Wingham's only goal of the' opening game at 8:41 of the final period to avert the shut- out, after Hanover had taken a 2-0 lead on goals in the first and second periods. Wingham's second game of the tournament against St. Marys was a dandy. The score was tied at one after th'e. first. , period, and the middle stanza was a tight - checking affair with neither team managing to score. However Wingham domin- ated the third frame, out- scoring St. Marys 5-2. Paul Robinson played one of his strongest games of the season, picking up a hat trick. His second goal was a picture, as he skirted the St. Marys' defence and slid the puck under a sprawling goaltender. Paul Kenyon and Steve Nicholson picked up singles, as did Mark Foxton with a blast from just outside the blueline that was in the net before the goalie could move. Wingham's final game of the Winter Games was a shootout, with the Lions blasting Orangeville 10-3. Brett Cameron finally got untracked, scoring four, goals. The outcome was never in doubt, as Wingham built a 6- 1 lead by the end of the first. period. Doug McFarlan and Mark Foxton each had a pair of goals, with singles going to Doug Wood and Doug Stephenson. The win gave Wingham third place in the tour- nament and the bronze medal. ICE CHIPS — Congratula- tions to the Midgets and to coaches Bob Sangster and Jon Bateson on "a fine showing. Goaltenders Rob Schistad and Mitch Braun played great hockey, allowing only eight goals in three games. It was good to see Rob Willis back on the *dine for Wingham after being out with an injury. — -- How does it feel in be' out on the street? Find out. Takeo walk. nJAOf(/AJ(46111. 40.41k a Mock bola,. Harriston racks up 8-5 win over Royals By Bill Johnston In the last game of the old year, the Harriston Blues racked up a come -from - behind 8-5 win over the Royals at the local ice slab last Tuesday night. The first period belonged to the Royals as they put out their best 20 minutes of hockey dominating the play in the Harriston end for the best part of the period and jumping to a 4-2 lead. Jay MacLaurin opened the scoring at 9:24, with a powerplay effort. Less than a minute later, the Royals were ahead by two on a gem as Rick Jacklin threw a perfect pass from blueline to blueline to send Dave Stephenson in alone and be made no mistake in getting that red light a -glowing. Harriston got one back 13 seconds later from the blade of Bill Williams. At 13:10, the Royals regained their two - goal lead as Rick Jacklin found the mark with Dennis Knox assisting. The Blues edged closer and Wayne Williams scored a powerplay goal at 14:44. In the last minute of .the period, the Royals got a big goal on the power play. Blues' Brent Manderson hardly had his pants. on the penalty pine, (yes, it took the Royals three seconds td score) as MacLaurin won the draw right onto Gord Kinahan's blade and the denting twine signalled a goal to put the Royals ahead 4-2. Early in the second, the pendulum of power swung to the Blues. With two quick goals early in the period, both from behind the stick of Fred Locking, the Blues tied the score and took control of the game. At 14:14, the Blues potent power play put them in the lead on Manderson's goal and a little sugar was added 15 seconds later as hard-working Paul Berfelz put. -one. home to send Harriston ahead 6-4. The Blues out -played and out -scored the Royals in the third on goals by Burt Newman and Russ Freisen whereas the Royals' replied with a single marker that came from a blast from the blade of Dennis Knox as he moved in from the point to blast home a pass -out from teammate Jacklin. At the final buzzer, the Royals once again found themselves on the end of an 8-5 score. WHISTLE STOPS—Boy the Royals sure looked good in the first as they controlled the puck and jumped to a 4-2 lead as referee. Clark Pollock had his whistle sounding with rapidity as he ruled the rink with authority ex- traordinaire. For the second game in a row, the Royals learned that "Twenty minutes of good hockey do not a game make." The Blues came out in the second fired up and those two quick goals to even the count seemed to sap the confidence from the Royals as Harriston completely dominated the game in the last two periods. For the Blues, Friesen was the big thorn in the Royals side as he had a big game with a goal and four assists. For the Royals, Jacklin continued to be the big gunner with a goal and three a! assists. Iti's nice to see Mike Montgomery back in the Royals' fold as he saw his first action of the season on the ulbg Winnerbleine of theri"ade.Share the Wealth" draw was ,Dwight Leslie of Teeswater and at press time, no one had claimed the pizza donated by the local Pizza Train. The Royals have a return match with the Blues this Friday night at the local arena with game time 8:30 p.m. The Royals would like nothing better than to rack up their first win of the season over the Blues. It should be a good one. Ringette girls win consolation trophy The Wingham senior ringette team won the consolation trophy at its first tournament of the season, held at Seaforth last week. After losing their first game 7-3 to Goderich, a team which went on to win the championship trophy, the girls downedNMitchell 12-3. This win achranced them to the consolation final against Howick, with Wingham winning by a score of 11-4. The team played ex- tremely well, especially considering that it had been organized just a week before the tournament. Leading the scoring by the strong forward squad were Lori - Gavreluk with nine goals, Julaine Adams also with nine, Leah Kulas with five, and Ellen Rodger, Tracy Scammell and Heidi Strong each with one. They were backed up by the good defensive play of Leesa Cook, Sandra Morrison, Paula Strong and Carol -Belanger, and the strong goaltending of Vickie Belanger and Lynne Braun. The team was presented with a keeper trophy and each of the players and the coach received a silver medal. Teams participating in the tournament came from Goderich, Seaforth, Mit- chell, Huron Park, Howick, London and Wingham.
