Seniors'
ay Centre f ` i a ws
By Rita Rice
Hello 1983! Well, a new
year has begun and regular
programs are resuming at
the centre this week. Last
week, between Christmas
and the New Year, our
regular program wasn't held
because many of the. seniors
were either going away or
having visitors.
This break gave the staff
an opportunity to do some
program planning for the
new year. Last November
we started our feature movie
series and we will be
showing an old favorite, "Ma
and Pa Kettle at the Fair"
next Wednesday at 1:15 p.m.
All area seniors are invited
to attend and a small
donation wotr-ld be ap-
preciated. If anyone in the
community needs trans-
portation that day, call 357-
1440.
The next loot clinic is
scheduled for Jan. 19 from
1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the day
centre in the Armouries. If
you wish to attend call the
centre.
We would appreciate
getting a volunteer driver
from the Brussels area to
drive year-round and ex-
penses are compensated for.
The person could even be
from Wingham and drive to
Brussels and Ethel.
Thanks to those who have
made donations to the centre
over the past year. Since we
are responsible for at least 50
per cent of our funding, it is
encouraging to see the public
show an interest in providing
a social and recreational
support service to area
seniors.
A slide presentation is
available to groups or
organizations in the com-
munity and it promotes the
centre. By calling the centre,
a time can be arranged for a
day. centre representative to
address groups. The citizens
of the community are a
source of referral for the
centre, so the more aware
the public is, the better.
Referrals can be made to
the centre and a time
arranged to meet with the
individual. Thanks to all the
volunteers who helped with
the centre's operation over
the past year and we
welcome new volunteers and
seniors to participate in the
program in 1983.
I have been asked to
mention the 50 and over
dances that will be starting,
shortly at the Armouries.
These dances will be held the
second and fourth Thursdays
of January, February and
March. The first dance is
scheduled for next Thursday
from 8:30-11:30 p.m.
