UCW unit meets
in Copeland Lodge
BELGRAVE — The after-
noon unit of the United
Church Women met in
Copeland Lodge, Wingham,
members and residents
joining together for the
Christmas meeting.
Mrs. Cecil Coultes
welcomed all present, then
began the meeting with a
poem, "Christmas Wonder".
A carol was sung with Mrs.
George Johnston at the
piano. Mrs. Johnston also
accompanied Miss Doreen
Anderson who played
several carols on the flute.
Mrs. Coultes read the
Christmas story from Luke's
Gospel. Many legends, she
said, have been written,
centred around the
Christmas story. One
definition of a legend says it
is a story of bygone times
usually of a marvellous
nature. And what has been
more marvellous? Also, a
legend centres around a trice
historical event and the birth
of Jesus is a true event.
Mrs. Alice Scott then told
the legend of Sam, the
Kitchen 'Boy of Bethlehem
Inn. Sam saw Mary and
Joseph turned away from the
inn, he saw the star and
heard the singing of the
angels. Feeling very sorry
for Mary • and Joseph, he
decided to share his meal.
While he was in the stable,
the shepherds came. One.
shepherd was Sam's uncle
and he assured Sam that this
was the Baby Jesus. This
experience left a profound
impression on Sam's life, an
impression of wonder, awe,
reverence and belief.
Mrs: William Fenton read
the legend of the poinsettia.
Its message: Have faith;
God is with us each passing
day. A skit, "Gifts Come
Down at Christmas", was
followed by another carol.
was reported that the
booklet, The Upper Room, is
ordered for 1982 and baby
books have been presented to
Roselyn Anne Hurst and
Peter John Irwin. Members
were reminded to save
stamps for the Bible Society.
In closing, Mrs. Coulter
read the. poem, "Star of
Destiny", and a prayer was
repeated in mason. A social
hour was enjoyed while
refreshments were served
by the unit.
