mas meeting of the
Wingham branch of the
Women's Institute held last

chambers.
The president, Mrs.
Robert Powell,' Welcomed

Ritchie at the piano.
Mrs. M. Pennington gave
an interesting readingabout
a former prime minister,
John Diefenbaker. The
reading, in Which Mr.
Diefenbaker irecalled his
• boyhood, were the im-
pressions of an eight -year -
old boy as he and his brother
.and their parents travelled
the CPR railway to
Saskatoon and then north to
Rathsern.
The Diefenbakers lived in
a shack under primitive
conditions, but their neigh-
bors helped the family
survive that first , prairie
winter. • Mr. Diefenbaker
concluded that everybody
was everybody else's: friend
that first prairie Christmas.

GRACE CAMPBELL entertained the crowd with some
funny stories as the Wingham bay Centre for the Home-
bound held its Christmas party last Wednesday: Clients
from all three days gathered at the Armouries for the
party, which featured a large and gaily decorated
Christmas tree and a visit from Santa, as well as treats
served by the Junior Citizens.
