Christmas -tide to Everyone. •‘; UCW Unit 4 holds Christmas meeting GORRIE — Unit Four of the Corrie United Church Worrien met last week in the Sunday school room with 23 members in attendance. Mrs. Dick Carson opened with a Christmas reading. The ladies sang a number of carols accompanied by Mrs. Harold •Hyndman on the piano. Mrs. Edward Bolander gave the scripture reading. Mrs. Carson gave the meditation on the theme "The day Christ was born" and Mrs. Bolander read "An Old -Fashioned Christmas". The ladies also held an exchange of secret -pal gifts. Mrs. 'Lloyd' Martin . in- stalled the officers for 1982: past president, Mrs. George Brown; president, Mrs. Clifton Coulter; first vice, Mrs. Bill Nay; treasurer, Mrs. Bruce Robertson; secretary, Mrs. Ivan Haskins and assistant, Mrs, Melville Dennis; flower and cheer, •• Margaret Dane; • catering committee, 'Mrs. Lionel Johnston; pianist, Mrs. Harold Hyndman; nominating committee, Mrs. Allan Hyndman and Mrs. Raymond Gowdy; quilt committee, Mrs. Hyndman, Margaret Dane, Mrs. Wilbur Hogg, Mrs. Robert Ferguson, Mrs. Cloyne Michael, Mrs. Melvin Taylor, Mrs. Hector Hamilton and Mrs. Joseph Simmons. A bountiful Christmas lunch was served following which 12 boxes were packed for shut-ins. The next meeting will be held Jan. 4 at the home of ' Mrs. Melvin Taylor. Chalmers WMS meets at the Rintoul home Whitechurch — Chalmers Presbyterian Women's Missionary Society met Tuesday afternoon of last week at the home of Mrs. William Rintoul. Mrs. John deBoer opened the meeting with a poem and everyone • joined in singing a Christmas carol. The scripture reading from the Gospels of St. Luke and St. John was read by Mrs. Don Ross who also gave the meditation. She ex- plained how God took upon Himself the glory to become a man and new life began. She said that Christmas brings cheer and happiness and it would, be a dreary world if Christmas did not come. She said that one of the privileges of being a Christian is that we become messengers of joy. She •osed with the poem, "Let e Be a Little Kinder", and folloWed with a prayer, A reading, "Seasons of Joy and Blessings", was .given by Mrs. Bill Rintoul. Mrs. Wesley Tiffin gave a reading, "Christmas Changes • Many Things". Following • the singing .of another carol,. Mrs. Men- si#ga giVea'reading, "What I Think of Christmai". The topic, "0 Worship The King", was given by Mrs. John deBoer. She said that the greatest gift at Christ- mas is that which God gave to the world, the King. She also stressed that it is more blessed to give than to receive. She closed with a Christmas prayer. Mrs. Alan Falconer gave a reading, "Christmas Legends", and the offering was received by Amy Falconer and dedicated by Mrs. R. deBoer. President Mrs. Don Ross conducted the business. There were nine .members and two children present. It was decided to send cookies to residents of Pinecrest. All signed a card for Mrs. Bill Evans. Following the singing Of "Silent Night", • the meeting closed with The Lord's Prayer in unison. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Wesley Tiffin. The Ladies' Aid meeting was conducted by Mrs. John deBoer who gave • the financial statement, received the offering and closed the meeting. Grace was sung and the hostess served , refreshments'. She i& very active in the community , and church groups and in visiting the sick and shut-in. Elsie is a member of the senior ladies' indoor bowling league. rMRS. The other prOgrain was a- tour ofCBC "Radio Noon" and. of the planetarium Both were well attended. °. , Mrs. Harkin spoke about the many .courses which have been organized for women at Kemptville. These Courses enable farm women to deal with the various \--prffilerns they encounter in their everyday lives. Sur- vival is the object of the , courses, which deal With credit, bookkeeping, 4apliti,- farm machinery, 'time management, dealing with , emergencies, first aid and stress management. Women for the Survival of Agriculture provides , a forum for women to learn about agricultural problems. Hardship and indignation iti these tough economic times will make women act, she said. Her message was to look at the positive aspect, not the negative. On Wednesday, 50 non - delegates. were guests of CBC Radio. The program "Radio Noon" was being broadcast live and all were very interested in how the media were reporting the issues of the convention. The group then visited the planetarium to watch 'the show, 'UFO—Myth and Mystery". Some of the Huron County participants in the programs included Ann Nesbitt, Shirley Gorniss, Betty Stafford, Brenda McIntosh and Judy Sturdy. rry _L____fr&t,d4tP4V4ea At the morning. worship service in the Wingham United Church on Sunday, Rev. Cecil Jardine baptized Janet Diana, daughter orMr. and Mrs. Gary Lisle, and Carl Joseph, km of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Steedman. Special Christmas music was provided by both junior and senior choirs. Mr. Jardine, in his Christmas Sunday sermon, spoke God's Gift To Us, the won- derful gift of His Only Son on that first Christmas mor- ning.
