They lacked anything resembling hustle or desti*, playing what could be ailed hockey.for only 10 minutes' of the contest: • • The Green Machine scored three goals in both' the first and third periods, adding two more in the second as they completely outplayed the hapless Ironmen. .The only time the Wingham club lcioked like a bona fide team was in .the opening aye minutesof the first and third periods. Goaltenders Don Higgins.and Trevor William- son were victims of a poor showing by all concerned. In the early stages of the first period, Rick Scrimgeour and Murray Dewar had . excellent chances, but the puck went wide of the mark or over the crossbar. Steve Jenkins made the most of his chance, firing a shot from the faceoff • circle that fehbAits way to the far: side or: the goal, ' catching the inside of the post.Greg Voison made it 2-0 for Fergus on a power play, catching the defence all to one side • of the goal. •Williamson atsi was caught out Of the goal and was • unable to scramble back in: time to block the shot from the slot. It appeared the Ironmen would make a go of it as they got their first goal of the evening with 17 seconds remaining in the opening frame. Doug Cotisins batted the loose puck .underneath the outstretched pad of Gary Trimble on the second at- tempt. However the elation of that • goal was shortlived as the Ironmen gave up a bad goal six seconds later, with Mike Harper drilling a low shot past Williamson on the stick side Wingham was held scoreless in the second period while the Green Machine continued to build its lead with goals by Jenkins on a paver play at 11:23 and Paul McDonald less than two History of Scout emblem As Scouts around the world prepare to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Scouting in 1982 and '83, questions are being aksed about the origins of the Scout emblem. The basic design of the emblem is used by Scouts in all 150 Scouting countries and territories. The emblem is one of the more Widely recognized symbols in the world because it has been worn by an estimated 200 - million former Scouts as well as some 16 -million , present day Scouts. As Lord Baden-Powell, founder of the Scouting movement, Wrote, "Our badge we took from the 'North Point' used on maps for orienting them with north." Lady Bad -Powell later ; rebind a &out he is -to be as true and reliable as a compass in keeping to his Scouting ideals and in showing the way to others, in scouting, the three tips of the emblem represent the Scout Oath or Scout Promise. The two fiv pointed stars represent the original 10 points of the Law, and in some countries also stand for truth and knowledge. The World scout Emblem uses the arrowhead surrounded by a 'rope in a circle toed with a reef or square knot to symbolize unity and world bretherhood throughout the Scout movement. The arrowhead and rope are white on a background of royal purple, the colors chosen by the founder. In heraldry, purity is the virtue most frequently SyMirlized by white, while `0114,,Apl purple denotes lettitithip and helping others. ,ss .e. J st4lr;& desenrdIy7so with hi point ▪ - perfomance. In the final frame the Irenmen tried. to rally and their initial efforts were rewarded with a,. goal just' 2:14 into the period as Jamie • Dewar knocked his man off the puck behind the Fergus goal. That hit created a loose puck that Kevin theffier ipicked up and tueked around the post from behind the goal to make it 5-2. Wingharn continued t apply pressure for the next three or four minutes, but whatever motivated the players in the first part of the period deserted them and they became lethargic, with no apparent desire. Robert Culp upped the Fergus lead at 8:49 and his goal sealed the fate of an already disheartened Wingham club.
