Evans dies in hospital Funeral service is, being held today (Wednesday) at two o'clock for George Percival Evans of 45 Alfred Street East, Wingham. Rev. Cecil Jardine of the Wingham United Church, where deceased was a member, is the officiating minister for the service at The Currie -Walker Funeral Home. and „the graveside service in Wingham Cemetery, Mr. Evans' final resting place. Pallbearers will be six grandsons, Rod and Lynn Hickey, Stewart and Brad Montgomery, Bill Rapson and Dave Crothers Jr. Floral tributes will be carried by Kevin Hickey and Murray Hickey. Mr. Evans passed away Sunday at Wingham and District Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Toronto on May 2, 1900, he was a son of the late Charles Evans and Mary Ann Robinson. His wife, the former Alice Anderson, predeceased him in 1973. He was also predeceased by one daugh- ter, Mrs. Gordon (Evelyn) Rapson (Holmesville), one sister, Mrs: Cam (Annie) McEnery (Ballinafad, one infant son, Emerson, one brother, William (Acton), one grandson and six great grandchildren. Mr. Evans is survived by three daughters, Mrs; Robert (Lila) Hickey, Mrs. Dave (Georgeina) Crothers and Mrs -Harry (Muriel) Montgomery, ', all of Wing - ham; 16 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Kirkby ' David Malcolm Kirkby of Maple Ridge, British Columbia, and formerly of Walton and Belgrave, passed away at Maple Ridge Hospital on Sunday, November. 29, in . his 40th year- , He is.survive [;by his wife, the former Freda Cook; three stepdaughters, Reta `White of Belgrave, Ruth Ann of Calgary and Mrs. John (Rosemarie) Olson, Vic- toria, British Columbia; two stepsons,. Rodney and Robert White, both of Belgrave; and three grandchildren. He was 111 1 n Me dear brother of Robert of Maple Ridge, B.C., and Mrs. Gerald (Mary Lou) Bolding of New Norway, Alberta. Also surviving are three grandchildren in Wingham, Michael, Cheryl and Maureen, seven gran- dchildren in Northern Ireland and one sister, Nan Walker of Lisburn, Northern Ireland. He was predeceased by two brothers, Samuel and James. The late Mr. 'Beattie was active in the Masonic and Royal Arch Orders and was for many years a Governor of the Masonic Girls' School, Dublin. He was well known in the Belfast area for his fine tenor voice and was a member of several male and mixed choirs. Lawn bowling was his 'favorite sport and he was a member of the Northern Ireland team in a number of provincial and international matches. He was president of the Northern Ireland Private Greens Lawn Bowling Association in 1979 and at the time of his death was the incoming vice president of the Irish Bowling Association. Funeral service was held at Rosemount Cemetery, Northern Ireland, on November 26. A private family communion was held November 26 at 8 a.m. at St. Paul's Church, Wingham, and a memorial service was held at two o'clock November 28 at St, Paul's Church, Wingham. Rev. John Swan officiating. asked the members to reflect on times in their lives when God seems remote to them and also to think of those things in our society that,pull many away from ; God. Passages of scripture from the Gospels of St. Luke and St. Mark were read by Mrs. Carl Johnston. Mrs. Peacock spoke on "Roads", where they lead us and how we rely on them in our living front, day today. Favorite Christmas carols were sung with Mrs. Donald Street at the piano. The roll call was answered with each member presenting a white gift. Discussion followed about loaning church kitchen equipment and it • was decided that the UCW president be in charge of loaning any such equipment. The Huron -Perth meeting in Hensall on January 25 at 1 p.m. was announced. Mrs. Harold Johnston and Mrs. Ross Nicholson were ap- pointed delegates with each unit to send one also. Members were asked to bring items such as needles, pins, thread, sewing material, etc., for Zaire to the February meeting in response to the roll call. - Annual reports were given by unit representatives and from each committee, recording a successful year for the Bluevale United Church. Sincere sympathy is ex- pressed to Mrs. Lolo Mann of Wingham from Bluevale and area friends on the death of her father, Harry Hastie of Gorrie. Friends, family mourn passing of Harry Hastie Family members and a host of friends are mourning the death of Harry Hastie of Gorrie who passed away at 'Wingham and District Hospital on Saturday, December 5, following a brief illness. He was in his 86th year. Mr. Hastie was born in Howick Township on March 10, 1896, a son of the late James Hastie and Mary Kemp. He farmed in Howick and for many years drove a school bus, endearing himself to the many students he transported- over the 'years. Mr. Hastie was pre- deceased by his wife, the former Ruby Jane Cathers, on November 25, 1978. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ross cLolo) Mann of Wingham, Mrs. Errol (Evelyn) Johnson, Guelph, and Mrs. Tom (Audrey) O'Krafka, RR 1, Bluevale. There are six grandchildren and nine great grand- children. Complete funeral and committal service was conducted Monday at the Gorrie Chapel of M. L. Watts Funeral Homes, Rev. FordwichSr. Citizens enjoy turkey supper FORDWICH - The local senior citizens held their Christmas meeting in the Fordwich Hall commencing with a hot turkey supper at 6 p.m- A large attendance enjoyed the supper and received a welcome from President Roy Kennedy. "0 Canada" was sung with Miss M. McElwain at the piano. "Happy Birthday" was sung to Brenda Martin, a guest_ who' had come to entertain. A thank -you note was read from Mrs. Lorne Kelley who recently fell and broke her arm. President Kennedy and Mrs. Russell Nickle, the secretary, were thanked for their year's work. It was decided to hold the meetings at 12 noon, commencing with a pot luck dinner, during the winter months.
