Madill Secondary School,• Wingham. Mervin McDonald dies in 70th year Mervin C. McDonald, a resident of Belgrave since 1974, passed away Monday, September 28, in the Wingham and District Hospital in ,his 70th year. Death followed a two-month ' illness. Born ' in - Arthur, Mr. McDonald was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs: J. J. McDonald. During his early adult life he worked as a banker and in later years, he was an accountant. He was a member ',of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Wingham. He is survived by his wife, the former Jean Hahn; one daughter, Mrs. Barry (Mary Elizabeth) Beech of 'Hyde Park; -one son, Peter of Kit- chener; two grandchildren, Mrs.. Bill (Kim),. Elgie of London and Sark Beech of Aide Park, , and two • 7-14 brothers, Wilford McDonald of Valleyview, Alberta, and Kenneth McDonald, Kit- chener. He was predeceased by two brothers and three sisters. The late Mervin McDonald rested at the Currie -Walker Funeral Home, Wingham, until Thursday, October 1, when removal was made to Sacred Heart Church for Mass of the Christian Burial at 11 a.m., conducted by Rev. Jack Marentette. Pallbearers were Mark. Beech of Hyde Park, Dr. David Berberick, Walkerton, Robert Berberick, Toronto,. `Christopher Howlett, Elmira, Bruce Hahn, Monkton, and Charles Edward of'Windsor. Mr. McDonald's final resting; place will be Arthur Cemetery. Native of Tumberry, Stanley Douglas dies A native •of Turnberry Township and longtime farmer in Howick, William Stanley Douglas passed away Saturday,' October 3, at his home, 50 Albert Street, Wingham, following a short illness. He was in his 66th year. A son of the late Andrew Douglas and Fanny Semple, Mr. Douglas was educated at S.S. No. 1, Turnberry, and farmed for many years in Howick Township on High- way 87. He retired on October 22, 1980. Surviving are one sister and one brother, Mrs. Joseph (Jessie) Clarke of Wingham and Andrew Douglas, Tees - water; and several nieces ' and neph s. He was pre- dece d y two sisters, Mrs. li Id (Helen) Ridley and Miss Agnes Douglas; and one brother, Robert Douglas. The •late Stanley Douglas. rested at the Gorrie Chapel of IM. L. Watts Funeral Homes until Monday when service was conducted at two o'clock by Rev. Lloyd Martin of Wroxeter United Church where deceased .i'" a member. Interment followed in Wroxeter Cemetery. Mr. Cook was born on February 20, 1886, in East Wawanosh Township and was a son of the late David Cook and Rebecca Harrison. He farmed in East Wawanosh for 35 years before retiring to Blyth in 1948. He and his wife went to Lucknow in 1971 and he has been a resident of Pinecrest Manor for the last year. Mr. Cook was predeceased by his first wife, the former Ella May Taylor, in 1950. Also predeceased are a son, Orval (1966); four brothers, Alfred, Frederick, 'Harry and Telford; and three sisters, .Stella, Edna and Violet. He is survived by his DIED KENNEDY- JACKSON—Passed away Sunday, October 4, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton, Dr. Irlma Kennedy -Jackson, wife of the late Arthur Jackson. The late Dr. Kennedy - Jackson was a former resident of Wingham, daughter of the late Dr. J. P. Kennedy, founder of Wingham hospital, and Mrs. Kennedy. She is survived. by one sister, Margaret Eva Read, recently of Grimsby, and was predeceased by sisters, Barbara Heloisoise Wilson and Mary . Aileen Hambidge. Service will be held. Thursday in Hamilton. WiLSON—Passed away at his residence, 10 Hamel Street, Guelph, on Sep- tember 17, Joseph Patrick Wilson, formerly 'of Wingham. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; one brother, John, and one sister, Alicia Vance. He was predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wilson, and one sister, May Chettleburgh. HAMMOND—Mrs, Irene ' (Rene) Hammond or Petrolia, formerly of Wingham, passed away at --her Iresidence -on• Friday, October 2, in her 60th year. She was the beloved wife of Ralph Hammond; dear \ mother of Bill of Sarnia and Mrs. Harry (Trudy) Argros, Peterborough. She is also survived by her mother; one brother and one sister in England. She was predeceased by one son, Bobby, in 1952. Mrs. Nelson Higgins, Dorothy, Charles and Norman Higgins, M. and Mrs. Rapp dies at 82 Edith M. Rapp of Wingham, formerly of Listowel, died Oct. 3 at her residence at the age of 82.° Born May • 21, 1899 in Kitchener, • she was the daughter of. Noah and Joanne (nee Erb)' Black- more. On June 27, . 1922 in Listowel, she and Oscar H. Rapp were married. The • couple resided in Listowel for several years before moving to Wingham in 1946. Mrs. Rapp was a member of Wingham United Church. Surviving are a daughter, 1Vfrs. Carl (LaVonne) Bondi of Bluevale, a brother, Glen Blackmore of Listowel, and five grandsons. Mrs. Rapp's husband died in 1978; she was predeceased also by her parents and by a brother. Pastor Robert Perry conducted the funeral ser- vice, which was held Mon- day, : Oct. 5 at the Robert Trench Funeral Home in Listowel. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel. Mrs. Olive Phillips dies at age of 100 Mrs. Olive Phillips of Pinecrest Manor, Lucknow, passed away after a short illnes on Sunday,'. Oct. 4 in her 101st year. She has re- sided in Lucknow for the past two years. In March of this year she was honored on the occasion of her 100 birthday. Born on March 17, 1881 in Mornington Township, she was the daughter of the late Pricilla (McMane) and RichArd Attridge of Milver- ton-: For--a-period they -also. - lived in Elma Township where Mrs. Phillips attended Newry Public School. She moved to Flint, Michigan at the age of 17 where she ' owned and operated a millinery store. In 1902 she married Elmer Phillips who prdeceased her in 1961. Following their marriage, they operated a business for several years until purchasing a small acreage between Saginaw and Flint, Mich. where they kept poultry and grew various kinds of fruit trees. Later they moved to Popano Beach, Florida. Following her husband's death, Mrs. Phillips re- zhained in Florida until she was 91 and at ..that time moved to Kitchener where she resided with her sister, Mrs. F. C. Abram. Later, she moved to Wingham to live with her niece, Mrs. Albert Cowan until Mrs. Cowan's death in 1979.- She then .moved.to_Lucknow. Survivors include sisters, Mrs, Minerva McEwen, who also resides at Pinecrest Manor, Lucknow, Mrs. F. C. Abram, Listowel, and Mrs. Cyril Knight of Sarnia as well as several nephews and nieces. One brother and three sisters predeceased Mrs. Phillips. The funeral service was held from the Currie -Walker Funeral Home, Wingham on Tue. Oct. 6. Burial followed in the Ethel Cemetery. Mrs. Ross Higgins, Bruce and Donna attended the wed- ding of Carol Farrier and Joel Hawley on Saturday afternoon in the Century United Church, New Toronto, Carol is the daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. Carman Farrier of Long Branch and granddaughter of Mrs. Nelson Higgins of RR 5, Brussels. Mrs. Higgins and Dorothy remained fpr a:few, days with Mr. and Mrs. Farrier. Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Jamieson of Wingham visited on Sunday with her sister and brother-in.law, Mr. and'Mrs. William Geiger of Listowel.
