Gratifying Recognition
Newspaper publishers and their
staffs,; like most other human beings,
are pleased when the excellence of
their product is recognized. Thus It was
a moment •of deep satisfaction when
two Wenger Publications, The Listowel
Banner and The Milverton Sun, were
announced as winners of awards for
advertising quality.
The Listowel Banner won two
premier awards (all circulation class-
es). The first was for best advertising,
series and the second for best'foadstore
layout. The Milverton Sun was placed
second for general advertising excel-
lence in the circulation class, 2,001 to
3,000. Community newspapers from all
over the province were entered.
Over the_ years Wenger newspapers
have won many awards in the editorial
or news content fields. The advertising
awards program . was opened for the
first,, time this year.
There are several good reasons why
these publications have excelled in the
quality of advertising content. Most
important are the skillful members of
our staff who create and lay out the
- advertisements. A person must possess
w.
creative imagination, as well as skillful
fin9ers to turn a plain list of items into
a compelling and attractive sales piece
— the sort of advertisement which
moves merchandise and thus stim-
ulates the local economy.
A second reason for the excellence of
our product is the installation, over the
past two or three years, of modern,
computer -controlled typesetting equip-
ment which makes literally hundreds
of type faces ,available to the adver-
tiser. Local business owners recognize
the fact that their week -by -week sup-
port provides the Lifeblood on which a
strong community paper depends —
and the publishers know that the only
way to earn such support is by provid-
ing top quality services.
The same creative department and
sophisticated equipment which earned
.The Banner and The Sun the recent
awards also produces the advertising
in the other Wenger publications — The
Mount Forest Confederate, The Wing-
ham Advance -Times, Crossroads,
Farming Today, Wellington Edition
and Farming Today, Perth Edition.
