The 'Wingliam Golf Club
hosted the Police Vier-
nament June 17. It attracted
117 golfers from the area and
surrounding cities. Ideal
conditions, a huge prize table
and a delicious meal con-
tributed to the success of the
tournament.
Low gross winner, Ron
Harris, shot a 76 and the low
net prize went . to .Leon
Desrochers with a 67.'
Numerous door prizes and a
draw for a television made
every golfer a winner at the
end of the day.
Thursday, June 18, a group
of ladies from Listowel at-
tended their third lesson of a
series of six held on Thurs-
days at 2 p.m.
A clinic for junior mem-
bers began Saturday, May
31, and the fourth lesson was
held June 20 at 9 a.m.
Instruction on the grip,
alignment, back swing,
i7ollow through' had been
given in the previous "three
lessons.. Chipping, putting
and golf etiquette remain to
be covered.

Invitational ToUirintinent on
June 24. There will be one -
shotgun start at ina.ni. and
between 60 and 70 ladies are
expected to attend. The tees
will be closed till 4 p.m.
This Thursday. the
Wingham Optimists are
hosting a service club
tournament. The afternoon
event will be followed by a
steak dinner.
"Italian Night" is -Friday,
June 26. This will be a two
ball foursome tournament of
nine boles beginning at 5:30
and concluding with an
Italian dinner. It should be
an enjoyable evening so plan
to attend.

The Wingham BPs a
doubleheader with the Owen
Sound GTO in pre-
tournament action last week.
Wingham won the opener
Wednesday,eight 6-2 and lest
the nightcari 4-2. '
Doug Petteplace threw a
three -hitter to record the
win, with Karl McConnell
taking the loss.
Leading the Wingham
hitting were Neil Bieman
with a home run and two
singles, Bruce Skinn with,
two singles and Ben Black-
well, also with two singles.
Don Edgar took the loss in
the second game. Bieman
again had a pair of singles
and Grant Coultes added a
single and a double as
Winghain out -hit the GTO 6-
5.
Next action for the BPs is
this Thursday night at home
in a rematch against the
GTO. Going into this game
Wingham is in second place
in the Georgian Bay league
behind Port Elgin.

HEADFIRST—Doug Leitch caused a sensation by stealing home on a strikeout in
a game between the BPs and Otterville Saturday night. Leitch was denied the run
on the previous play when he came home on a bunt that was ruled a dead ball, but
it took more than that to stop the speedy centre fielder.
