FORDWICH — Members of the Fordwich Bowling League held their closing banquet Friday night when the Anglican Church Women catered at Trinity Anglican Church. Following the dinner a short business meeting was held with President Gerald Matheson in charge. Officers elected for the 1981-82 season were: president, Wally Nixon; first vice president, Carole Hohenadel; sec- retary, Brenda Browne. At the conclusion of the meet- ing, trophies were presented to the teams. Bowling will resume in the fall at the Molesworth Lanes. Weekend guests. with Gordon Gibson were ' his family: Mr. and Mrs. Crawford Gibson, Barrie; Mr. and Mrs. Garry Gibson, Oshawa; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Reffell, London; Mrs. Bonnie MacDougall, Burlington; and Mr. Gib - son's granddaughter, Mrs. Doug Atkinson, and Mr. Atkinson off London. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Allan, Heather and Malcolm, Toronto, were weekend guests with the former's mother, Mrs. Mac Allan. Miss Alison Metcalfe: Winnipeg, is visiting with Miss Marion Gibson. Mrs. Wally Nixon,, For- dwich, accompanied by Miss Margaret Griffith and Mr. and Mrs. Allan Griffith, were in London on Sunday at the Needham _Funeral Home where Frank Morton of Dor- chester was resting until funeral service Monday. They paid their respects to Mrs. Morton and other relatives. Mrs. Morton is the former Margaret Griffith, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sam Griffith of this area. Robert and Judy Chaison, Ingersoll, were weekend visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Alan Baitley and family. Mrs. Margaret Deaken and Roy Whitehead, Walkerton, visited Monday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Allan Griffith. Lance Gibson, London, is spending a few days with his grandfather, Gordon Gibson. A successful auction" sale was held for Jack Burns on Saturday at the farm on the outskirts of Wroxeter. Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Burkholder,' owners of the Copper Kettle Restaurant and garage on Highway 87, and Mr. and Mrs. Case VanLoo,' AR 2, Wroxeter, whose brother and son were killed in the tragic head-on collision on Highway 87 just west of Wroxeter on Saturday. Mrs. Wallace Milligan and Mrs. Alan Falconer attended a bridal shower for a relative at Streetsville on Tuesday evening. -• w... as "„ n, ai.ry..y!., WPS students view woodht Students from the Wingham Public School took part in an environmental education program last Friday at a woodlot just north of Wingham in Turn, berry Township. The program is part of an attempt by the Ministry of the Environraient to teach young people an awareness of and a respect for the en- vironment. Lynn Buckham, of the ministry, saki that six people travel around Ontario and conduct nature studies with public school students. Other studies done include field - forest, aquatic, soil and litter. Miss Buckham said so far the response of the students has been quite good. She added that teacher preparation of the students is a big factor. - The students also are encouraged to -develop a sensory awareness and appreciation of the environ- ment. For example, they were asked to note different colors, textures and tem- peratures in the woodlot. Mrs. Nettie Ross of Wingham and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Renwick of Teeswater have returned from a two- week visit to Belfast, Ireland. They visited friends and relatives while there. Royals pound Chepstow The Howick Intermediates finally ended a long winless streak against"the Chepstow Aces by defeating them 18-0 in• a game played in Wroxeter May 24. The Royals came out strongly, scoring three runs in the first inning. Rick Jacklin hit two home runs, one out of the park, with Dave McCannel] .and Ron Riley adding home runs of their own. Chepstow pitchers Spitzig. and Diebold gave up a total of 15 hits. Jacklin also was hot in the field, setting up two double plays• to snuff out any Chepstow threat. The Royals are receiving excellent pitching from Ron Riley, who has allowed only three runs in 18 innings. There will be a game Thursday, June 4, in Wroxeter when the Royals are home to Teeswater, in what should be an exciting contest. CHERYL UNDERWOOD competed in the Midget girls' high jl mp event at Monday afternoon's track and field me 4.
