Pierre Rammelloo at- tended the meeting to advise Honored by roadbuilders At the annual meeting of the Ontario Roadbuilders' Association in Pronto last week, Joe Kerr of Wingharn received a signal honor. Mr. Kerr was granted an honorable mention and a standing ovation in recognition of his 50 years as a member of the association. No other members have, as yet, achieved this distinc- tion. A few months ago, when The Advance -Times recorded the veteran businessmen of Wingham, Mr. Kerr's record was over- looked. He ,has been in business in Wingham for no less than 54 years. His first location was in the building immediately west of the arena. Later he erected and occupied the building now known as Cap'n Zack's Restaurant, before moving to his present main street south location. Fresh foods Continued from Front Page supporting legislation. 'Last fall, representatives from the retail food industry told the government that to start conversion they would need legislation and a sponsored campaign to achieve consumer ac- ceptance. They said that the government should also have to demonstrate by an appro- priate consumer survey that this campaign had been effective. This survey has, so far, not been conducted. "Citizens have 60 days from February 28, 1981, to register their objections to the department of consumer and corporate affairs to this new legislation which will make illegal - the use of Canadian units of measure- ment in the retail trade of commodities including food- stuffs." However Mr. Starr said the low reponse rate really isn't a factor, since only people interested in • new ac- commodation were asked to respond. About half the question- naires were sent to Wingham residents and half to residents of the surrounding townships, but three- quarters of the responses carne from within the town. The consultants agreed to bring their final report to council at its May meeting. In the interim council for- med an ad hoc committee of Mr. Miller, Jim Currie, Pat Bailey and Dick LeVan to look into the possibility of setting up a non-profit housing corporation, as well as check whether there's any possibility of getting action through the Ontario Housing Corporation. The OHC had agreed to build additional low rental seniors' units in Wingharn, nut the project was &Wed when public pressure forced the previous council to abandon the Cruickshank Park as the site for the building. 8' x 12' Plastic Drop Sheet .5 mil 1643-065-12 Ourreg .99 Sturdy, all aluminum.
