Unionville scores in overtime
slip by Merriton Midgets 3-2 ,•
One shot, -one goal, was
Unionville's record in a sud-
den death overtime period
against Merriton. Sunday.
The final goal gave Union-
ville a 3-2 win for the B
Championship Trophy.
Fans who watched this
fast -paced match saw some
of the cleanest hockey
played last weekend as both
clubs skated and carried the
puck well and took few
penalties.
Unionville opened the
scoring after the first five
minutes when. a hard shot
landed the puck against the
centre post and dropped be-
hind the Merriton goalie.
Metriton answered four
minutes later to end the
period 1-1.
Both teams missed scoring
opportunities during the
second frame. The Merriton
Midgets, who carried most of
the play, continually shot
wide of the net, while Union-
ville had trouble penetrating
Merriton's defense.
The third period was
scoreless. until 8:01 when
Merriton.found the net ori the
stick side of the Unionville
goalie. The desperate Union-
ville club then took control of •
the play and notched the
tying marker near the end of
the frame to send both teams
in the overtime,period. .
Again Merriton carried the
action, keeping, the puck in
Unionville's zone, but Union-
ville found a loophole., and
scored on a breakaway by
Shawn Ferdinand.
Doug Rae scored the other
two Unionville goals, while
Merriton markers were
scored by Jeff Perry and
Sean Polly.

ford to play catchup hockey
throughout the match. In
desperate efforts to close the
gap Meaford finally
managed to slip one past the
Hanover goaltender early in
the second period.

the goal with several rushes
into the Hanover zone, but
came up with penalties in-
stead of goals forcing its own

left all by himself in front of
the Meaford net, tipped the
puck in to put Hanover ahead
