This year's Parent and Son
Banquet had approximately
140 people being entertained
by the many speakers and
skits. It was emceed by Doug
Wood.
We were entertained first
by Mr. Deslauriers, who kept
picking up hitchhikers in his
noisy car. The Beatt''rers sang
two songs. and the Cubs sang
their version of 'My Bonny',
entitled 'Bring Back Akela'.
Our radio skit went over '
great.
Marty- also gave the
medals • from our Winter
Olympics.. First in snow

Bantams whip
Wiarton in
playoff opener
The Wingham Bantams
opened their best -of -three
OMHA ' playoffs with a
convincing 9-4 win over
Wiarton -Feb. 17 in the Lock
ridge Memorial Arena.,
It took only 38 seconds for
Steve Nicholson to score,
assisted by Mike Houghton
and Brett Cameron.
Wingham took a 2-0 lead at
10:45 on a goal by Jim
Dennis, assisted. by Mark
Foxten and Doug Wood.
Cameron wrapped up the
first -period scoring, at 12:01,
assisted by Houghton.
Wingham increased its
lead at 1:57 of the second
frame on a goal by
Houghton, assisted by
Cameron and Nicholson.
Cameron scored his second
goal of the game at 2:19, with
assists from Byron Thomp-
son and Nicholson.
However Wingham quit
skating, add Wiarton came
back to life with three quick
goals'to narrow the margin.
Coach Fraser Strong had
his charges fired up for the
final frame, and Nicholson
scored at the 38 -second
mark, assisted by Rob Willis
and Dennis. Sean Bray
widened the lead to 7-3,
scoring at 1:26, assisted by
Willis and Dennis.
Thirty-seven seconds later
Willis made it 8-3 in favor of
Wingham with an unassisted
tally.
-After Wiarton scored at
2:24, the game settled down
to defensive hockey. Mark
Foxton scored the final goal
of the game at 13:16,
unassisted.
ICE CHIPS — Mitch Braun
once again played a solid,
game between the pipes for
Wingham. Early in the game
he made some great saves to
keep Wiarton off the score -
sheet

upset Dodgers.
After suffering an.. 8-0
defeat in the first game of
the series, ' the Advance -
Timers have elianinated.
Crawfords from further
playoff action by defeating
the Dodgers 5-4 in overtime
Monday night. John Cullen
fired the winner in just the
second minute of overtime to
give Advance the series, two
_ games to one.
Trailing 4-0' at the atart of
the third period, Crawfords
almost rallied to win, but
Rick Jacklin's goaltending
kept Advance in the game.
In game two of the series,
Advance dominated play and
came away easy 6-4 winners
to force the third and
deciding game. Cullen fired
• two for the winners and
Steve McKay netted two for
Crawfords.
Advance -Timers now will
meet Stainton Spitfires in the
final series.

curling bonspiel was held in
the Belmore Complex on

Again this year the numbers of moose
hunters in two hunting zones will be limited. The
hunters in Zone 23 near Hearst and Kapuskasing,
and Zone 31 near Chapleau will be selected
by computer.
If you wish to participate, please contact a
Ministry of Natural Resources' District Office nearest
you for an application.
Applications must be postmarked no later than
March 20, 1981. The selection process will begin
March 27 1981 and applications received after that
date will be ineligible. Only residents of Ontario
may apply.
The computer draw will be held in Toronto
and successful applicants will be notified by mail.
