About 25 people braved the
fog and gathered at the
Wingh4mn Town Hall on the
evening of Thursday, Feb.
18; for a meeting of the Wing -
ham and District Branch of
the Canadian Diabetes
Association.
Those gathered enjoyed

after the business part of the
meetiing.
The meeting was' opened
by the president, Rev.

announce the branchwould
be officially receiving its
charter at a meeting in the
near future. He reported the
branch already has 31
registered members.
Other executive members
gave their respective
reports. Due to inclement
weather the :: meeting
scheduled for Feb. 11 had
been cancelled. Linda James
of the fund-raising com-
mittee
reported that - the
draw for the Valentine cake,
made, decorated and
donated by Bea Chambers,
had been won . by "Kathy
Leddy of RR 2, Auburn.
A film, entitled 'Some -
Observations on Diabetes',
by Dr. Charles Best the co-
founder of insulin, was en-
joyed by all.
The door prize was drawn
by Isabel Burke and was won
by Ivy Riehl of Wingham.
Games of euchre and
crokinole were enjoyed.
Refreshments of coffee,
cheese and crackers were
served to end a very enjoy-
able evening. -.

Hearty'congratulations to Steph-
anie Gaunt, Miss Home Place, who
was named Miss Frostyfest, 81. It
was a singular pleasure for us to
be the sponsors of this ' lovely
young lady.
As well, congratulations are
extended from all of us at the
Home Place to all the other
attractive young contestants. Their
participation in the Frostyfest con/
test and it's special events meant a
great deal to the success of the
entire celebration.

in the Church'. Vii, poem
'Envy Went To Church This
Morning', was read and Mrs
Lapp told of Barnabas and
his love for the church, how
he sold his property and gave
the proceeds to the work of
the church. He fearlessly
preached in -the name of
Jesus, risking his life to add
Christians to the early
church. He encouraged
many Christians and trusted
Mark as a fellow laborer
when Paul forsook him.
Under the heading,
`Loving Others', Mrs. Gerald
Smith and Mrs. Campbell
discussed the love between
David and Jonathan.
Jonathan had many good
qualities but his love for
David exemplified his
quality of . Christian love as
'he opposed his father, King,
• Saul, and protected David.

meets at flow home
BELGRAVE — Calvin -
Brick United Church UCW
meeting was held at the
home of Mrs. Donald Dow on
February 18 at 8:15 p.m.
Mrs. Gordon McBurney
opened the meeting with a
reading "Partners in
Crisis". A hymn was sung
and scripture was read from
Matthew and Luke.
Mrs. Norrnan Coultes gave
the meditation 'What We
Are, Shows'. Mrs. Kenneth
Mason read from Romans
12:1-18. Mrs. John Jamieson
led in prayer. Mrs. Richard
Moore began the study with
"The Family in Crisis", and
a short discussion followed.

FORDWICH — With the
president, Mrs. J. Gedke, in
the chair, the Fordwich
Women's Institute was
entertained by Mrs.' John
Winkel telling of their trip to
Holland in 1980.
Mrs. Winkel told the group
that Holland has a large
population considering the
size of the country. Each
year 20,000 visitors come for
the Tulip Festival, the
flowers blooming from -the
middle of April into May.
Holland has no speed limit
for vehicles. It is good far-
ming country . and the pic-
tures of acres andlacres of
different colored tulips was
very beautiful The slides
also covered their visit to
two cemeteries, one con-
taining the graves of
Canadian soldiers, the other
American soldiers, a total of
8,000 graves which are
tended by Holland's people.
Mrs. W. Hargrave gave
the motto, 'If it wasn't for
agriculture, what would the
city, man do?'. The answer,
Mrs. Hargrave felt, is ob-
vious: man cannot survive
without food produced on the
land and - dairy and meat
products supplied by the
farmer. She then gave a
Mrs. Donald Dow concluded
the study with a Valentine
message.
Mrs. Kenneth Mason led
the business portion of the
meeting. The World Day of
Prayer will be held at the
home of Mrs. Kenneth
Mason on March 6.

report on Huron -Perth Pres-
byterial UCW held at Bruce -
field.
Mrs. Bryan Coultes closed
the meeting with the
benediction and the hostess
and her group served a
dessert lunch.
