Day
Seniors'
Centre News
By Rita Rice
Most of our • upcoming
activities at the Wingham
and Area Day Centre for the
Homebound will focus on the
festive season. '
This week we have been
decorating the tree in then
Armouries. The seniors
made all of the decorations
so it definitely - has that
personal touch. We would
like to thank Doreen, Jack
• and Taylor Mali for donating
the tree to the centre. It is
greatly appreciated.
On Tuesday of this week
Sacred Heart School enter-
tained with a Christmas pro -
gra m . On Dec. 10 Turnberry
Central School .performed.
with its ukelele band. On
Dec. 11 the Wingham Public
School is coming down for a
Christmas program. For
those who read the paper on
Dec. 10, come in and join us
at 11:30 a.m., Dec. 11, for the
public school's presentation.
In total about 120 children
were at the centre this week
and it certainly was a
pleasure to have them. Their
community input to"our pro-
gram is very much appre-
ciated.
On Dec. 4 Jerry Kavanagh,
manager of the Standard
Trust Co., Wingham, visited
the centre to speak on
banking. The session. was
very enjoyable and edu-
cational. .with a lot ,of the
seniors asking questions
from banking procedures to
politics associated with our
economy. Opinions were
flying.
Our Christmas party will
be held on Dec. 17 and we
will be having all three days'
participants in on the same
day. If anyone is doing some
extra Christmas cooking or
baking we would appreciate
anything to add to our
smorgasbord dinner. Any
extra drivers to transport all
of our seniors that day, Dec.
17, would .also be ap-
preciated. . •
You May notice the ad in
this paper asking for com-
munity 'financial support.
The centre is undertaking a
drive to get the community
involved in our program for
homebound seniors. ,,,The
people right here in the local
community benefit from this
recreational program.
If at any time you wish to
contact the centre call 357-
1440, or drop into the
Armouries and speak to
myself, Rita, or Mil Stuart.

Seniors hold
final euchre
The Friday afternoon
euchre, sponsored by the
Seniors' Happy Gang, was
held on Dec. 5.
This was the last one for
the 1980 season and the club
will wait to see what tran-
spires in 1981. The club did
not hold the parties with the
idea of making money, but
its aim was to provide enter-
tainment and an enjoyable
time.
There were only seven
tables, but being the
Christmas season that
wasn't bad. There were only
five prizes given: pink card
high, Verena Bone; high
white, B. Holmes; most nine
of hearts pink card, Rena
Fisher; most nine of hearts
white card, B. Porter; low
score, M. Burbridge.
The Happy Gang wishes to
thank everyone, especially
George Grigg who so
capably conducted the
euchre. See you next year .
