Christian layman speaks
on role
A Christian layman ac-
tively involved.with Men in
Missions International,
Charlie Lemon of Bervie,
was guest speaker when the
United Church Women of
Wingham held their general
meeting Monday evening.
Mr. Lemon is a .dairy
farmer who became in-
terested in the work of the
mission organization a few
years ago. In 1977 he served
in Ecuador for. 10 days,
observing their . farming .
methods and studying the
soil where people try to
make a living on barren
farm land high in the Andes
Mountains.
Men in Missions is com-
posed of men from every
occupation who visit
countries to help the people
become self-sufficient. It
now is active in 12 countries
around the world. Though
not given a great deal of time
to work with the people, the
men gain enough knowledge
to share with full-time
missionaries who serve in

which can be adopted to
improve living conditions for
the missionaries and
natives.
Their work, always based
on Christian teachings and
considered a'witness to their
Christian faith, very often
becomes the foundation for
furthering the Kingdom of
God. Many members remain
in the country. to assist in the
building of new churches and
schools, as education and
Christian faith become more
important to modern-day
Ecuadorians.
Mr. Lemon showed slides
of his experiences in
Ecuador and Many of the
people he met there. He also
said he has committed four
more years to Men in
Missions in the faith that
should he be called again -to
serve the Lord will prlvide'
his needs, both at home and
where he is led.
Mr. Lemon's witness was a
fitting climax to this

although it would take a day
or so to get the wheels back
in motion.
Teaching staff and prin-
cipals would be back in the
schools Friday, he said, with
pupils returning on Monday.

noted this use is permitted'

The board recommended
against a request from Peter
Maharaj to build a . house
along Scott Street, next to his'

pointed out a number - of
changes would be required to
permit the . construction,
including rezoning, lot .line
variances and a severance:
In addition there were -
`questions about how it would
be affected by the, outdoor,,
propane storage and -parking
facilities at the restaurant.
The Ministry of Natural
Resources expressed op-
position to the plan because
of its location on the flood-

planning department also
recommended against it.
