Barry Miller, president of
the :Huroon `County 441, club
leaders' association,
reported that- the '362 club;:
members in the county had a
project coipletionn, event/1e
of: 92 per cent. He also noted
there were two 4-H ex-
changes during, the year, one
with Alberta - involving 25
members and another With
Illinois involving 18.
A number ofyoung people
from around this area were
among the winners of major
awards in the 4-H and. Junior
- Farmers' judging compe-
tition this year.
Brian McGavin of RR 4,
Walton, won the United ,Co-
operatives of Ontario Trophy
as top scorer in thejudging
competition, with 748 of a
possible 850 points.
He also won the Canadina
Imperial Bank of Commerce
award for . obtaining the
highest standing m 4-H dairy
calf .club work. Cathy
McGavin was runner up for
this —award. Both are
members of the Seaforth 4-11
Calf Club.
. The CIL Trophy for the top
scorer in the swine judging
went to Bruce Godkin of the
North Huron 4-11 Swine Club,
with 96 of a possible 100
points. Bruce also won the
Bruce McCall Trophy for the
champion 4-11 market pig
and the Huron County Pork
Producers' Trophy for
scoring the highest number
of points in a 4-H swine club.
The Huron County Milk
Committee Award went to
Mike Franken, a member of
the Hallriceb-'41H"ta1f'Club,
who scored 95 of a possible;.

BLUEVALE — Miss Rita
Rice was . guest speaker
when the November WT
meeting was held at the
home of Mrs. William deVos.
She ,explained her work ;at
the Wingham and Area Day
Centre for the Homebound.
This centre is located in the
Wingham Armouries and
has been open for about a
year and.a half. `,
Every Tuesday, 'Wednes-
day and Thursday an
average of 20 seniors from
Wingham and surrounding
area arebrought to the
centre by volunteers.They
enjoy exercising, singsongs,
a full -course dinner, a
speaker or discussion and a
craft or recreation period.
Miss Rice had on display
several articles made by the
seniors, .including woven
baskets, ceramics, tray
favors, macrame and
Christmas decorations.
The speaker stressed the
importance of volunteers in
,keeping :the; z, ,.progrannl.

received a silk flower.

their grandmothers. Many
pictures and mementos were
described and passed among
the group.
Mrs. Alex MacTavish and
Mrs. deVos reported .on. the
crewel embroider
workshop they attended. The
members were reminded of
the 4-11 Achievement Day to
be held December 6 in the
Howick Central School; the
Christmas _ at the Lee
Homestead on December 3
and 4; and the next regular
meeting of the WI to be the
Christmas • meeting,; on
December 10 at Mrs.
Mathers' home.
Mrs. William Peacock
read a poem, 'What Is a
Grandmother?', for the
visiting grandinothers. A
short report was given on the
Lorrie Perry Award which
was, presented November 7
to two deserving recipients,
Brenda Breen at .West Elgin
Secondary School, West
Lorne, and Gail Thompson at
F. E. Madill Secondary
School.
Mrs. • Robert Fraser
conducted several contests
for the grandmothers. Mrs.
Mathers gave a report on the
WI convention held at
Guelph. Mrs. Norman
Coghlin of Atwood is the new
vice president and board
member for Sub-division'i1.
