evening by scoring two runs
in the ninth inning to win the
game 3-2,

hit a long home run to
narrow the score to 2-1 in
Brodhagen'sfavor.
Both teams played well
defensively, but each had a
limited number of hits,
which was a good indication
of the pitching and defensive
play.
Brodhagen threatened to
tie and possibly win the
game in the ninth as it had
three runneiss on base with
only one out: However Doug

Despite the wet weather a
large turnout of players
attended the horseshoe
tournament at the Wingham
Sportsmen's Club on Satur-
day, Sept. 13.
Eighteen teams competed,
with Ivan Metcalf and Bob
Leachman winning first
prize. Len Bok and Ross
Cayley took second place
and a team from Arthur
finished third.

Wees defeated Exeter
I\ Monday night, winning their
best -of -five series three
games to two.
The first game was played
at Exeter, with Wingham on'
top 18-6 after five innings.
McFarlan led the .- hitting
with a triple and a double.
Good also hit a double.
Exeter came back to take
two straight games, winning
6-5 and 15-8 over the home
club. Good and McFarlan
again had doubles in the
second game, while Braun
hit a triple in the third.
Wingham then dumped
Exeter 12-7 in Exeter,
Swingers meet
The executive of the
Huron -Bruce Swingers
Square -Dance Club met at
the home of the president,
Harold and Edith Quipp, on
Monday, Sept. 81.
The purpose of the meeting
was to arrange, the -program
for the coming. fall and
winter season. It was de-
cided to invite all former
dhcers to a square dance
party 'to celebrate the club's
10th anniversary, to be held
on Oct. 2 at Lucknow Public
School:
The caller, Glenn Pat-
terson of Goderich, agreed to'
instruct a class of beginners,
which will begin on Tuesday,
Oct. 7, at Brookside Public
School at 8:30 p.m.

Slow pitch playoffs Wingham

The Wingham Industrial
Slow Pitch Playoffs, ori-
ginally slated for last week-
end, has been rescheduled
for this E riday evening,
Saturday and Sunday after-
noon.
Murray Black, playoff
organizer, explained that
after one round of play last
week, the games had to be
cancelled because of poor
weather conditions.
However during that round
there were two major upsets.
Western Foundry defeated
the Police, 11-2, while the BP
Oilers downed the Business-
men, 11-9. •
Two other matches saw
Turnberry Tavern slide by
the Slushpuppies, 7-6, and B
& T Bookies squash -the Bel -
grave Kinsmen. 22-9.
On Friday evening Turn -
berry Tavern will meet
Western Foundry at 7 p.m•
and the Slushpuppies will
tackle the Police at 8:30 p.m,
Games will begin at 9 a.m.
on Saturday with the BP
Oilers playing the B & T
Bookies. The Bel rave
Kinsmen will meet the
Businessmen at 10:30 a.m.
Matches will continue all
day Saturday and the
championship games will
begin on Sunday at 1 p.m.
There are eight teams
participating in the tourna-
ment,

to win the i.ntercounty slow
pitch group final, three
games to one.
Doug Foxton and Wayne
Brown hit home runs for
Wingham. Foxton had four
hits and Wayne Brown, Jim
Sherwood, and Bill Wall each
had three hits. Ray Cartey
had a bases loaded triple and
an outstanding defensive
game.

ner of the Shakespeare -New
Hamburg series for the
Grand Championship
Trophy.

defeat mothers
BELGRAVE — The Bel -
grave PeeWee Girls enter-
tained their mothers Monday
night with a softball game
and a corn roast. The girls
defeated their elders 10-9 in a
wide open friendly game
which created hilarious en-
tertainment for .the specta-
tors-
At the corn roast held at
the home of Mi. "and 1 s:
Alex Nethery, the coaches
were presented with gifts
from the team. Angela
Nethery presented Mrs. Roy
Taylor, Alison Coultes
presented Mrs. William
Elston and Susan Elston
