Kevin put on .a super dis- play of pitching as he struck out 13 batters in five innings while walking five, and Jonas struck out four while walking thre in the last two innings. The Wingham. batters were hitting well with Rob Strong leading the group - with three singles, a double and a triple in five trips to, the plate. Jonas Kaciulis was . up there too with two singles and two doubles in four tries at bat. Kevin Saxton went two for four, Rance Willis, 'two for five; and Mark Foxton, one for three, to aid in the attack. BPs grand- champions. at Won • ,The Wingham 410 fastball team won both the A division championship and the grand championship in a fastball tournament at Brighton last weekend. A highlight of the tour- nament for the BPs was the strong -pitching of veteran Rd Daer, who struck out 1T of the 22 batters he faced in the final game. , . The tournament featured teams from Toronto, Belleville, )Trenton .and Brighton in addition to Wingham. The BPs met Toronto Zebco in their first game, coming away with a 10-0 win on 11 hits and a one - hitter thrown by Dong 15etteplace. Bob Armstrong. had three hits including a home run .and two runs batted in, Jim Seip added three runs batted in for the BPs. - ' in their '\, second . game Wingham met the Belleville Glacers and defeated them 11-4 on eight hits. -The win- ning pitcher once again was •' Petteplace, with, Daer making the save - as he relieved in the fourth inning. Armstrong, Daer and Keith Elston each _ had two hits, with Neil Bieman batting in • three runs. On Sunday Wingham met the defending champion Belleville Merchants. Wingham emerged the winner 3-2 in extra innings. The winning run came on a home run by Daer, who also pitched a strong , game, holding Belleville to only four hits. This win advanced 6 ' 71° HEADING HOME to a hero's welcome, Paul Curie of the Kincardine BNPD team rounds the bases after smacking 'out a grand slam home run in the first inning against London Free Press. The Cuties have been on the road since 1946, when they were formed on the island of Guam by Airman Trino Palacios, who still pastimes as Madam Hilda. The barnstorming team- mates dress in outlandish ladies' garb, but under it all are some of the finest soft - bailers from the US west coast. They have been covering the US and Canada for 33 years, playing a 120 - game schedule, and have never failed to win the majority of games, while at the same time leaving their audiences laughing. They finished last season with an 112-8 record behind the iron arm of pitcher Dumpy Dora, and have high hopes of improving on that record this year, Originator, owner and featured clown, Madam Hilda, takes a turn on the mound as well as leading the comedy fireworks.
