The program consisted of George Romanik on his ac- cordion; `The Black Magic', Kim Craig, Becky McKinley and Pat Stackhouse pre- sented their number by step., dancing; Paul Coultes,.' speech, 'My School Fair Calf'. Mrs. Annie Riley sang a, solo accompanying herself on her guitar and therewas a vocal duet by Fat Currie and Jeff Culbert. The Blyth -- Junior School Choir sang under the direction of Mrs. Johnstone. BELGRAVE T The gen- eral meeting of the United Church Women of Knox United Church was held June 3, in -the church schoolroom. The president, Mrs. Dorothy Logan, opened the meeting by welcoming everyone, including the ladies from Brussels, Blyth, Calvin -Brick and from ;the Anglican and Presbyterian churches 'in Belgrave. After the , singing of a hymn, Mrs. Ross Higgins in- troduced.the film 'Deep Cur- rents Moving', which showed the physical and spiritual as- pects of life in Japan. Most Japanese believe in Bud- dhism or Shintoism ; and those of the "Christian faith are in the- minority. The Home Helpers hold meeting BELGRAVE — The June Home Helpers meeting was held on June 2 at the home.of Mrs. Reginald Shultz. Mrs. Garner Nicholson, presided and opened. with a poen. Mrs. William Dalrymple read two poems, 'The Mir- acle of Spring' and 'Outdoor Church'. Mrs. Shultz gave a reading, 'Home'. Mrs. Nicholson read a story on the work of Dr. David Living- stone, who spent 33 years in Africa among the natives. Offering was received and dedicated followed by a hymn. Mrs. Nicholson closed with prayer and lunch was served by the hostess. Christians in Japan fear the nationalism , and militarism promoted by Shintoism.. Mrs. Ross Higgins con- ducted a question . and an- swer period on the important aspects of the film. Mrs..,, Dorothy Logan re- minded the members to con- tribute to the bale to be packed soon and the Country Fayre on June 28th. . Mrs. George Procter re- ported on the UCW weekend at Westminster College in London which had as its theme, `Follow me'. Everyone enjoyed the flute and piano music provided by Doreen and Sheila Anderson. Mrs. Ross Anderson and/ Mrs. Laura Johnston pre- ` sented the worship service, using the theme 'Planting and reaping'. Mrs. Laura Johnston read a recipe for, planting a friendship garden and Mrs. Anderson gave a reading, mentioning seeds of friendship, love, study,, work and good health. She closed with a poem by Edgar Guest 'Package of Seed'._ , After. thesinging of a h %mn '°Mrs. Laura Johnston repeated the Irish .benedic- tion. Mrs. George Michie asked everyone to move into groups according to the month of their birthday and a social time with lunch was enjoyed. MRS.
