pulled the infield in to stop
the tying run, but Bob Arm-
strong's throw to the plate on
Elder's ground ball went
astray, allowing both
Waddinton and Underwood
to score. Mare Short then
singled to score Elder, who
had advanced to second
base.
Ed Daer pitched a strong`
game for the BPs, allowing
only five hits while striking
out five Owen Sound Batters.

weather, people get involved
m a wider range of outdoor
activities such as gardening,
boating and swimming. But
each year outdoor activities
result in - injuries and
fatalities to many people.
Most accidents can be
avoided by observing simple
safety rules. Ontario Hydro
offers the following elec-
trical safety tips which could
help to protect you and your
family this year.
Prevent children from
climbing hydro poles,
buildings or trees near
power lines.
Fly kites and model air-
planes in wide open spaces,
far away from power lines

ment.

With just over a week to go
the Wingham Junior
Citizens' Jog Fest will be
held Saturday, May 31.
Registrations for the 2.5 and
10 k.m. events will be at 9:30
to 10 a.m., in front of the
Town Hall. '
Rollerskating will start
this Saiurday, ati.to 10:30
p.m. at the Lochridge
Memorial Arena. There are
many prizes to be -wan, such
as L.P.s, tapes, hats, t -shirts
and theatre passes.'
The Dennis Schoolby Ball
School will be held on Mon-
day, July 28 to Friday,
August 1, from 9:30 &M. to
3:30 p.m. If you are in-
terested in attending please
send in your application.
Make sure all outdoor
electrical appliances and
equipment are grounded
with a three -prong plug un-
less approved with a two -
wire cord (double insulated).
Use only the heavy -type,
outdoor' extension cords
recommended by Outdoor
electrical equipment manu-
facture's.
All outdoor electric cords
and plugs should be in-
spected before each use to
make certain there are no
cuts or breaks.
If you see a fallen power
line, send someone for help
while you keep all persons at
least six metres or 20 feet
away from the danger area.
New , electrical instal-
lations must be inspected as
set out in the Electrical
Safety Code of Ontario.
Electrical Wiring and equip-
ment is best installed by a
licensed electrician.

Billie Jo Spears will 'be
performing at Howick
Community Centre June 7.
A few tickets are still
available for the event, the
proceeds of which will go
toward equipment and
fencing for the recreational
playground in Wroxeter Ball
Park.
Master off ceremonies will
be Don Sanderson of CKGL-
FM, Kitchener.
Tommy Cash has a string
of hit records to his credit,
including Six White Horses,
Roller Coaster Ride and Rise
and Shine. His albums in-
clude a selection of
Christmas songs with his
brother, Johnny Cash. well
as Grand Ole Opry per-
formances, he has made
recent guest appearances on
the Mike Douglas, David
Frost and Hee Haw
television shows. Per-
forming with him in Howick
will be his band, The Tom-
cats.
Billie, ,Jo Spears' first
country hit was Easy To Be
Evil, followed by Blanket On
the 'Ground, Misty Blue 57
Chevrolet and others. She
frequently tours England
• where she rates as the top
female country singer.
She has appeared on such
shows as Hee Haw, Pop"Goes

Grand Ole Opry. She will be
bringing her own band to the
Howick show.
The evening will include a
concert, followed by • a
country dance and lunch.

BELGRAVE — At a Kins-
men meeting held May 21 in
the Belgrave arena, six
• members from the neighbor-
ing club visited Belgrave.
Blake Evans and Paul
McKee informed the mem-
bers on spring council held at
Chatham. Both attended and
advised that Southwestern
Ontario Kinsmen clubs have
given $161,000 to cystic fib-
rosis, the club's major pro-
ject.
Canada has given more
per capita to research on
C.F. than any other country;
also, the life span for C.F.
patients is longer in Canada
than other places.A teen-

Tennis club holds its
first season tourney
The Wingham Tennis Club
held its first club tournament
of the season on Sunday.
Blue skies and a cool light
breeze made for near perfect
weather conditions as, a
small group of club mem-
bers played about five
games each for individual
points.
• Myrla Frank took first
place fir the ladies' division
with Betty Shaw finishing
second. For the men it was
Peter Maharaj placing,,first
and Rick McKay, second.
Together with the club
tournaments, which are
being held monthly, there
will be intern* com-
petitions this season. The
first one is set for June
against Atwood, to be played
in Wingham.
Other programs being •
planned for this season in-
clude • tennis lessons for
beginners. This program for
both new and old members
will be offered every Satur-
day in June.
Those taking advantage of
the lessons will be divided
into two sections, Junior and
Senior. Juniors, those under
16 years old, will play bet-
ween 9 a.m. and 10:30 Ei.m.
Lessons for Seniors will be
scheduled between 10:30
a.m. and 12 noon.
Anyone interested in
taking lessons should contact
a member of the tennis club.

planned and should be held
early in June. •
The May 31 pork roast and
dance tickets are still avail-
able from members, but are
going fast.
