wnsbip of East
klosh has agreed to
pll ase land for a new park
in the village of Belgrave,
with the understanding it
will be reimbursed by the
local Kinsmen club.
At their meeting last week
township councillors voted to
spend $25,000 to buy 2.8 acres
of land from Lorne Hum-
phrey for the new ball park,
which will be located just to
t.tinq south of the- existing
park.
The Belgrave and District
Kinsmen have promised to
repay the township for the
land, together with any in-
terest charges. It was
necessary for the
municipality to make -the
purchase in order to qualify
for a 25 per cent grant from
the Ministry of Culture and
Recreation.
In the interim the township
financed the purchase with
$11,000 borrowed from the
Belgrave arena renovation
'fund, $5,000 put forward by
the Kinsmen and the balance
in a mortgage from Mr.
Humphrey. It was felt that
borrowing.1 from the arena
fund would reduce interest
costs.
The Kinsmen have put
forward a plan to develop the
land as a recreational
facility for the village. In the
first year they propose to
landscape the pri.,erty; the
second year th-- would

move the ball diamond onto
it and turn the existing ball
diamond into a parking lot
for the arena. They also
propose building a new, side
entrance for the arena. In
the third year the Kinsmen
propose to build a play-
ground adjacent to the new
ball park and start planning
for a new community centre.
They note there will be
ample room for other
recreational activities such
as lawn bowling, tennis
courts, picnic area and
horseshoe pits.
In other business at the
meeting, council accepted a
bid for paving the Westfield
Road at a cost of nearly
$100,000.
