the Bluevale Chamber of
O*nmerce in its efforts to
lyase funds to help offset
Bluevale Hall renovation
costs.
During the group's last
meeting, Monday night,
Melanie McLaughlin from
the Ministry of Culture and
Recreation discussed with
members the status of
Wintario and other grants
that might have been ap-•
plicable to their cause.
She explained that Win-
tario grants, which have
been frozen for almost 11/2
years, may be under a new
program by next April. "It is
anybody's guess what this
new program will look like."
Because of this there is no
way of telling whether or not
the Bluevale group will be
eligible for money from that
source.
However, there are still
funds in a separate Wintario
Community Grants program
Haat can be, used to purchase
recreational equipment.
This one-time grant could be
used to cover 50 per cent of

evening at the W.I. Hall at
the weekly euchre.

James Coultes and Mrs.

Jean Whitby and Kay
Forgie were in first place in
Thursday's duplicate bridge
garne. Will ` French and
Omar Haselgrove came
second, with Doris French
and May Porter third and
Yvonne McPherson and
Mary Lloyd fourth.
The games are continuing
through May. Why not give
duplicate bridge a try?
Games start at 8 p.m.. Thurs-
days in the fire hall.
the cost for new equipment,
such as ping-pong tables or
chairs.
"But, there are no
guarantees that the grant
will come through. You may
find out in three to six
months that there is no
money available," she
warned.
Right now the allocation
for this program is quite
limited, she said, adding that
for this region, which
stretches from Tobermory to
Windsor, there is only $10,000
left for the rest of 1980.
Therefore the best bet is
seemingly the Community
Recreation Centre grant,
which when applied for
through the municipality
covers 25 per cent of capital
costs. She explained that
Turnberry Township could
pass a bylaw to become
eligible for the grant and
apply to the ministry before
any money is spent on the
project.
After about one month
approval should be granted
and the group will be notified
when money is available.

Malcolm, the former
Margaret Nimmo. He is a
grandson of Mrs. Alexander
Nimmo and the late , Dr.
of
Nimmo, formerly
Wingham.
The waiting period for the
grant is currently 11/2 years.
Although the waiting
period seemed like a long
time to many who attended
the meeting, she assured
them that once approval is
given work on the hall can
begin.
But she warned that this
program will cover only the
costs of new additions to the
building, not the repair. This
could include a new ceiling,
new washrooms, new fix-
tures and insulation.
So far, the Bluevale
Chamber of Commerce,
which has been raising
money for the hall
renovations for several
months, has accumulated
about $9,800. This money has
been raised through bingos,
draws, a variety show, two
family and one teen dance
and a craft and bake sale.
The chamber's walk-a-thon,
held last weekend, raised
over $3,400 for the hall.
Continuing efforts for the
summer include several
draws and a street dance,
which will be sponsored by
the recreation committee.

Baptism
celebrated
at Knox
BELGRAVE—A very
large congregation wit-
nessed the sacrament of
baptism celebrated in Knox
United Church, Belgrave, on
Sunday morning.
Rev. John G. Roberts
conducted the service. Miss
Sheila Anderson, pianist,
and Mrs. George Procter,
organist, presided for the
prelude and service. The
choir rendered "Father of
.the Human Family" as their
anthem.
The scripture reading
referred to the exodus of the
Israelites from Egypt. The
people knew thegoodness of
God; nevertheless God was
not pleased with the result of
their actions.
The minister based his
remarks on I Corinthians:
Chapter 10:12 "Wherefore
let him that thinketh he
standeth take heed lest he
fall". God's side of baptism •
is 'a sign, he reaches out to us
and -our children. Baptism is
celebrated once and is never
repeated.
There 'is a demand on the
parents, a Commitment, an
engagement. Theirs is ; a
commitment of faith. There
is no shield placed around
the child by baptism. We
could deny our own baptism;
could forget our com-
mitment and our respon-
sibilities.
The order of baptism as
presented in- the 'Service
Book' was used to receive
Kendra Jennifer, .daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Jim D.
Leishmand; Wayne Thomas,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas
Fenton and Heather Lynne
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
James Keller' into the.
church.
