pissatisfaction with the
drain's performance was
was
brought to the township's
attention by a pett4ron &OM
Mrs. Merritt. She argued that
22 acres of usable_farmland on
her property is affected be-
cause of improper drainage.
Section 74 of the Drainage
Act obligates council to repair
a municiple drain, when
requested to do so by an in-
volved landowner. However
Mr. Shifflett explained that
• *tit as the Fortune Drain
would be eittlaifted as im-
Prwiement not repair.

All four landowners agreed
that the drahi is not working
for them, but were concerned
over improvement costs
which they would have to
cover. After a two-hour
discdssion the group signed an
agreement to foot the bill for a
preliminary report outlining
improvement details and
costs for the drain. The report
will be prepared by the
engineer at an estimated cost
of $1,200.
Regarding drain loans a
letter was received by council
from the Ministry of
with
Agriculture and Food stating
that additional funds are
available to process all 1979
tile drainage loans at 75 per
cent. Turnberry has requested
$47,300.
Council went into committee
of the whole to discuss a $410
bill from Mr. Shifflett for work
done on the Bryce Drahi.
During the last township
meeting council decided not to
pay for the work because it did
not authorize it to be done et
Turnberry's expense.
However, after Mr. Shifflett
explained his position during
the closed session, last
meeting's motion was
rescinded and council agreed
to pay the engineering bill.
Councillor Brian McBurney
sat out of the discussion
because his parents are in-
volved in the drain.

ship may find a little extra
added to their tax bills for
1980. It all started with a
request from the Federation
of Agriculture for its annual
donation of $600.
Councillor Ben Malda
argued, "I don't feel we are
justified in giving that amOultt
of money to one orgatulzo-
lion." •
Mr. MeBurney agreed with
him, stating that a township
donation would consist of
money from residents, who
may not be farmers.
Apparently donation
amounts are set through
legislattion and some
municipalities apply it
directly on the tax bill. If a
farmer doesn't want to con-
tribute to the federation he
may forward a letter to
