Royals lose twice
After suffering an em-
barassing 12-3 trouncing at the
hands of the Harriston Blues
last Tuesday, the Wingham
Royals bounced back to play
very well against the Mount
Forest Rams Friday night.
In the game Tuesday eight
different Blues tallied against
the. Royals. It was Wingham
which scored first when Tom
Black blasted a shot past the
Harriston netminder, Neil
Bieman and Murray Black
assisting.
The Blues replied twice
before Dave Golley tied the
score for the Royals again on
assists by Bieman and Murray
Black. However the Blues
added two more before the
period ended and never looked
back, adding. two, more in the
second; period .and, six. in ; the
third. • An early third period
goal by Bruce Shoff was all the
Royals could muster in reply,
Bob Johnston and Rick
Jacklin assisting.
It was 'a much different
Royals club which took to the
ice Friday. They opened the
scoring in the first period
when Peter- Bakker flipped
Wayne Johnston's rebound
over . the sprawling .. Mount
Forest goalie to give Wingham
a lead that .'held up' until the
2:20 mark' of the second
period, When the Rams tied
the score.
Rick Jacklin restored the
Royals' lead briefly , at the
15:40 mark, assisted by Bob
Johnston and '14Iurray Black,
but the Rams tied the score a
minute later and the period
ended in a 2-2 tie.
In the third both clubs came.
Out skating ",ane %fie 1iojyals
carried the play, for most of
the period. However it was the
Rams who ` broke through,
scoring at •15;45 of the period
to take a 3-2 lead. They added
an empty net goal with 30
seconds left to put the game
away.
It was a tough loss for' the
Royals as the team put out a
fine effort. Hard skating and
checking gave them the upper
hand through most of ' the
game, but they couldn't put
the: puck past the Ram goal -
tender.
Keith Elston played well in
theRoyal net, stopping
several ' close -in Ram shots
and beating Mount Forest's
Aitken on a penalty shot in the
first, period to maintain the 1-0
lead for the Royals.
The Royals finish their
home schedule this Friday
, against lte,,Luckfow;Iiaancers.
Game time is 8:30• at the
