Immediately following his presentation council heard from Malcolm Campbell of the REFILLING—The Wingham Fire Department was forced to refill ita water supply to extinguish a five-hour blaze inGorrie Monday night. The Main Street hOrne, belonging to Harley Christie, caught fire shortly after 9 p.m. Although firemen couldn't save the building they managed to stop flames from spreading to a neighborinqhuilding about five feet away. MRS. GEORGE BROWN Gorrie Personal Notes '•' Mr. and Mrs. Angus Gingrich of Cambridge (Preston) spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs, Robin Bolander. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Moir attended the funeral of Murray French of Chatham last Monday. Mr. and Mrs. William Fire destroys Gorrie home The Wingham Fire Department spent five hours in Gorrie Monday night ex- tinguishing a blazing Main Street house. The fire, which began shortly after 9 p.m., engulfed and destroyed the home of Harley Christie. Fortunately no one was caught inside the building during the blaze. However two • firemen did receive minor injuries. One suffered a broken thumb while collecting more water and Fire Chief Dave Crothers acquired sore muscles and bruises when part of a brick wall collapsed on top of him. Mr. Crothers reported that investigation is still underway and so far no cause for the blaze has been determined. Mr. Christie said he Was sitting by the stove at the back of the home when he noticed fire at the front and called for the fire department. He said he has no idea how it started. Mr. Christie, who moved into the home Sept. 5, had recently completed renovations inside. He said he did have imarnect, but added, • "not enough to cover my losses". Newton and Mr. and Mrs. Alex Graham have been holidaying at Indian Rock Beach in Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Thacker and Shawn of London visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Donald Leader. Mrs. Jasper Parrish and Mrs. Elmer Farrish were in London on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Dane and Shaun and Mrs. Melvin Taylor of Brussels spent the weekend. with Mr. and Mrs. Barry Dane and Mrs. Ernest Rymers of St. Catharines and attended the funeral of Mrs. (Rev.) Mr. and Mrs. George Keil returned home Saturday after holidaying at Miami, Hollywood, Stuart, Orlando and Indian Rock, Florida. While there they attended the Barnum and Bailey Circus and Disney World. Howick Society elects officers • HOWICK—The annual meeting of the Howick Agricultural Society was held Thursday, January 31, at the Fordwich Community Hall. In his president's address, Norm Fairies thanked the directors for their cooperation and help during his two-year term.
