Maitland Presbyterial ;Women's Missionary Societies was ,"The Challenge of - the 80s". This meeting was held on January 14 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Wingham. Mrs. Don Robertson, Kinlough, presided and Mrs. Harry Bateman was pianist. More than 60 attended. Devotions were conducted by Lucknow afternoon WMS. Mrs, . Austin Loree read scripture from I Samuel and Mrs. Ken Laidlaw gave the meditation. In it, she commented that David en- couraged himself in the Lord and that Christians in this,time need —courage w 4•••-make—•theinaelves useful. Mrs. Morgan Henderson,. led 'in `prayer, and Mrs. Robert Armstrong welcomed : the ladies to St. Andrew's. The minutes and roll call were read by Mrs. Robert Armstrong and Mrs. Evan Keith gave the treasurer's report. The various ( secretaries reported and the meeting adjourned for lunch. Homes BLUEVALE—Conveners of Citizenship arid World slffairs for Bluevale Womei's.Institute, Mrs. • Roibert Fraser . and Mrs. Ken Simmons, arranged a tour of Royal Homes- as part • of„ the January meeting. Mr. Care, a salesman for Royal Homes was a .very interesting tour guide of the. factory taking his visitors through each step of building a home. The homes were shown in different stages of completion and' finally a demonstration was given of the finished product, which was furnished. Coffee and donuts were served. • The business meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Carl John- ston after the' tour with Mrs. Charles Mathers presiding. The•roll call, "How do you as a Canadian citizen react to the Quebec question?" was ywell discussed and most thought that -Quebec would not separate from the rest of Canada. A donation . of $50 was voted to • the .finance committee of the Community Hall and plains were made for future projects. Leaders were chosen for the three groups of the 4-H Clubs. Several get well cards were signed for the sick in the com- munity and a luncb Of cake and ice cream was served by Mrs. Ddhald Street,,Mrs. Harry Elliott , and Mrs..Sparling Johnston. Belmore The Chamber of Commerce held its annual dinner and meeting on Wednesday, January 9, with 128 attending the dinner The, retiring directors are Mike Kieffer, Harry Helfenstein and Jim McKague, The new directors are'lloe Kieffer, Roy Douglas and Mike Marritt. The new president is Ross Fitch and vice president is Mrs. Walter Renwick. Harry Helfenstein showed .slides of Europe. Wilfred Johann is presently a patient in Wingham and District 'l4Qspital. The Belmore 4-H clubs will be starting again for the spring project. Any interested girls who have celebrated- their 12th bir- thday are welcome to join the clubs.' The Bantam hockey tealn defeated Clifford 4-1 in a game played last week. Eleven members 'attended. the January meeting at the home of Mrs. Joe Walker and answered the roll call by naming a woman from the Bible. - Mrs, Walker read scripture from St. John, chapter 6, verses 8-14 followed with prayer by Mrs. Harold Grant. Offering.' was received with prayer by Mrs. Gulley, followed - by. the treasurers report from Mrs. Gray. Mrs. William Elston was in. charge of the topic over the last lesson from Search for China. The Chinese people no longer welcome missionaries and, we wonder if some of these people are closer to being Christians than some people who profess to be from the western world. They are very unselfish and thoughtful so maybe we can ' learn something from them. A hymn was sung followed with prayer to being the meeting to a close.
