Morris township grants wage increases for 1980 Members of Morris Township Council set township wages for 1980 during Monday's general meeting. Reeve Bill Elston will receive, $1,100, an increase of $100 over 1979, and Deputy Reeve Thomas Miller .Was awarded an increase off $80 setting his wages at $950. Councillors will now be paid $900, also an increase of $80. ' Council decided not to increase wages for special Meetings over last year. They will remain at $20 per meeting for the reeve and $15 permeeting,,for the deputy reeve( and councillors. "It's hardly an eight per cent increase because the special meeting rates aren't going up," stated Mr. EIston. Regarding other "township_: employees, the clerk, Nancy Michie, was awarded $4.70 per hour or a' 35 -cent per.. hour in•. crease over 1979. Shewill also receive $45 per month rent from. the township for operating out of her home. An increase of 50 cents per hour was awarded to . the grader operators, bringing their pay up:: to $6,75 per hour. The group met Tfiursday, and planned the up- coming events for the new year. January is gaing to be a busy month at the centre. Jan. 8 and 10 will include a public health in- formation exchangeon diabetes, foot care and skin care. On Wed- nesday, Jan. 16, there will be a foot care clinic at the Day Centre, starting at 1:30 p.m. The month will also include a presentation and information session by the Town and Country Homemakers on the services they provide to, seniors. If any local seniors are interested in hearing the presentation or participating in the clinic, phone 357-1440 for more information. Thursday's group was put to work at -muscle toning exercises and active games during the morning activities. Current events . led to a discussion on Afghanistan and Iran and many interesting comments were heard: Following lunch some clients relaxed over a game of dards, however most were put to work learning how to crochet coat hangers. Mrs. Peggy Moreland and Mrs. Lorraine Poulin aided in the instruction of the craft session. The meeting is set up to include representatives from rural municipalities in Huron County in the hope they may come up' with suggestions for alternative tax policies. • The township gads consent to two severance applications, \one from Vernon Somers and one from William Logue. Mr. Logue's application was for 0.9 acres to be severed from 47 acres on Lot 3, 4 and 5, Cons. 10. Tile drainage loans ap- plications for $18,000 each were accepted by council from Charlie Terpstra and Russ Kelly. The township also granted 825 to the Mental Health Society and $10 to the March of Dimes. The bylaw for the Coultes Drain was given third reading and passed during the meeting. The Wingham • de' .
