Ironmen
The- Wingham Ironmen,
hungry for a win following a
disappointing showing the
previous weekend, prepared for
Christmas by trouncing the
Arthur Eagles twice.
In a game played at Arthur
Dec. 21 the Ironmen dominated
play completely in their 9-2 win
over the struggling Eagles.
Arthur has the worst won -lost
record in the league with but one
win and a tie in its second year of
Junior C play,
Wingham built up a 3-0 lead
after 20 minutes and continued to
pile up the goal total .with four
more in the second frame and
two in the final period.
First period goal getters were
Mark Frayne, Dave Kieffer and
Jim Blackwell. Frayne's ° goal
came with 23 seconds gone in the
game on the first shot on goal.
Kieffer's goal was set up by Dale
Whitfield, who spottedKieffer
standing alone at the side of the
Eagle net. Blackwell knocked in
the rebound after Dennis Knox

later Paul Daugherty flipped an
easy shot past Gamble, seeming
to take him by surprise.
The Ironmen dug deep and
exploded for three late period•
,scores. Bernie Haines got things
started at 13:44 as Mike Mon-
tgomery, who had three assists
for the afternoon, fed him the
puck. Haines, standing to the
right of the goal, backhanded the
puck past Gerry Gaynor, who
anticipated a move to the other
side.
At 16:45 Blackwell clicked for
his second goal with an important
shorthanded effort. He deked the
goalie to the ice and then
duplicated Haines' goal with his
backhanded shot from close
range.
The Ironmen took the lead for
the first time in the game on
another powerplay effort. Dave
Kieffer warded off a Mustang
defenceman and managed to get
