A number of officials and
dignitaries were present for the
Opening ceremonies when gifts
were exchanged between the
teen...214. The honor of dropping the
puck went to Robert Gibson of
Gerrie, represeating the Howick
Athletic Association.
Those taking part in the official
opening included: Beat H.
Neilsen, executive of the Danish
Ice Hockey Union:ayes Oswald,
past president of the OMHA and
tour convener; Dave Neilson,
secretary -manager of the
WOAA; Murray Gaunt, MPP;
the WOAA vice president and
John Gross of Listowel, another
WOAA representative.
Commenting on the hours of
work put in by members of the
community centre board
n preparation for the in-
ternational hockey match, board
chairman Harold Gibson of RR 1,
Fordwich had nothing but praiie
for board members.
"I think they did -a fantastic
job, not only for the Howick-
Denims* game but for the Super
Series tournament the week
before," Mr. G'on said. "And I
think the arena was nicely
decorated for the holiday
season."

Goderich Sailors
take Royals 6-3
Wingham Royals travelled to
Goderich Dec. 28 to take on the
Sailors and came up on the short
end of a 6-3 final score.
Two firSt period Goderich goals
put the Sailors ahead and they
never, looked back. A goal by.
Bernie Haines in the first period

after One. Shoff and Johnston
assisted on the goal.
In the second the Royals were
again outscored 2-1, wifh Haines
contributing his second score of
the game on a brilliant end-to-end
rush.
DaVe Galley closed the gap to 4-
-3 in the third period with an early
marker„ but very "close of-
ficiating produced numerous
penalties and slowed' play.
Through ail' this the Sailors were
again able to score twice and the
game ended 6-3.

Palmerston tourney
The Wingham PeeWees won
one and lost one last Thursday at.
the Palmerston PeeWee Tour-
nament,
Wingham squeezed by Drayton
in its first contest by a 3-2 score.
Doug Stephenson opened the
scoring for Wingham at 8:03 of
the first, assisted by Tim Brown.
Drayton scored two minutes later
and thePeriod ended. at 1:1.
Quinn • O'Donohue scored
Winghem's second goal on a
penalty shot. Greg Walton scored.

PeeWees tie Seaforth
• Wingliam Legion PeeWees
came up with a superb effort
Thursday evening in the
Lockridge Memorial Arena and
fought to a 5-5 draw with. the
powerful Seaforth team.
Seaforth took.an early 2-0 lead.
With less. than two minutes
remaining in'the first peribd Paul
Robinson scored for- Wingham,
assisted by Dwayne Jenkins,
At' 3 :47 of the second Wingham
drew even with Doug McFarlan
scoring a neat pass from
Quinn O'Donohue.
Dave McIlwain, who scored
four goals for $eaforth, broke the
2-2 tie at 5:37 of the second frame.
Doug Stephenson replied for the
locals a minute and half later
with Greg Walton picking up an
assist.
A late goal by McIlwain put
Seaforth ahead by . 4-3 as the
period ended.
Paul Robinson tied the score
for Wingham at the midway point
of the third w& an unassisted
marker. Less dn six seconds
later Mcllwain once again put
Seaforth ahead.
The battle 'raged, for the next

in this game and had some good
scoring opportunities. Some
sports fans say a. tie game is like
kissing your sister but Jeff.
Cameron said this tie was "like
kissing Raquel Werth".
