Home, - l aicklsowi Ra Saturday, Iecember- 22, following a brief illness. She was in her 79th year. Born March 27, 1901, in Lucknow, Mrs. Cleland was the. former Mary Isobel Connell, daughter,' of the late William Connell and Mary.. Somerville. She attended Lucknow Public School and Lucknow High School. and graduated from Wingham High School. Sale later was graduated from the University of Toronto and the Ontario College of Education. In 1941, Mrs. Cleland came to Wingham from North Bay, one year after being widowed on the death of her husband, James Leiper Cleland. For 25 years, she was employed as a secretary and teacher at the Wingham District High School. She also worked as a secretary at the\ Wingham General Hospital. She was an active member of St. Andrew's: Presb tytan Church where she sv'vd ;as secretary for many years. She was also a > tel a of lie Wingham Library Board'' and the local Horticultural 'Society. Left to mourn her passing is .. one daughter, Mrs. Roger (Mary Ann) Neils of Toronto. There is one sister-in-law. Mrs. > William (Daisy) Connell of Wingham. Mrs. Cleland was predeceased by her only brother, Dr. William Connell. The late Mrs. Cleland rested at the Currie -Walker Funeral Home until Monday, December 24 when funeral service was con- ducted at 11 a.m. by Rev. Dr: Robert H. Armstrong at. St. Andrew's,;; Presbyterian Church. Interment followed in Greenhill Cemetery, Lucknow. Pallbearers were six members of the teaching staff of F. E. Madill Secondary School, all fellow staff members when Mrs. Cleland taught at the school, Ken Wood, Bob Campbell, Tim Willis, Bob Gavreluk, Ed Beard and Bob Ritter. A poem, 'Christmas Eve',,. was recited by Milford Prouty. Cecil -Skinner played his violin and Mile Henderson' played, the. organ. During the program Rev.. Gonyou played his guitar. Don TheDarrell. Meditation church service on Sunaday morning was conducted by Revs `on. -w the theme of, 'What Christmas Is All About'. Margaret McQueen sang, 'O' Holy Night'. 'Carols Sweetly Carol', was sling by the liuronview choir. The plants in the chapel were placed .there'by M. Beattie and Sarah --Carter. The MC for the Seaforth - Christmas party, put on by the )mons club, was Mr. R. Apittal. The program began with greetings from the Lion's president, Harold Turnball. Several favorite Christmas carols were sung followed by the Cross Country Squares, who entertained the residents by performingtheir dances. A Carol Cantata was presente& by the Northside • United Church Choirs, ' under the direction of Margaret Whitmore and Audrey Mcilwain. Santa Claus made an appearance at the end of the program and presented each resident with some fruit. i'he effects of the flu have been felt at the home and as a result 'weekly programs have been curtailed slightly. On Tuesday afternoon The annual Christmas party was held in the auditorium. Residents and staff, combined, presented the program. Elsie .Henderson played a couple of pieces . on the piano. Betty Bell sang followed by Wendy Kloss and friends, who tacted out Silly Willy. Everyone enjoyed Frank Bissett's piano playing. Mr. Bissett ac- companied Mrs. Henderson while She played her bells': The choir "sang, 'It: Came Upon A Midnight Clear' and. Betty Rodgers sang, `O Holy Night':> -The =office and heads7Qf staff:presented the skit, ,:Boy Meets Girl'. For the postlude Mrs. McQueen and Mr.: , Bissett played, 'The Bella of St. Mary's':' The Salvation'Army Band from Wingham brought much piness and cheer to the residents of Huronview ,:on Sunday ternoon. It played several sof the old familiar carols while going through the home. The Salvation Army, with its fine mus brought'back many"memories to the residents. ; On /Sunday afternoon, . Mrs: John McDougall and four of her male students presented, 'In Concert', in • the chapel, where many residents gathered to hear this fine program. In�her splendid style Mrs. McDougall .played a. piano -solo. She'aceolmpanied the) four young men, Dennis 'Hainir: Paul eraig,'Er c Strj ,and.Jift ; • Wittich. •They Sang solos 'and duets and led the congregation in a sing -song of carols. Mrs. Street delighted everyone with his piano solos, one of which was his own composition. The residents are 'Very . grateful to Mrs. McDougall and the boys for . their fine musical program. It added so much to the spirit off Christmas. .
