VICTOR EMERSON Whitechurch Personais Mr. and Mrs. Coleman, the Ioniser Doris McClenaghan, of Nanaimo, British Columbia, arrived at the home of her brother, Carl, and Mrs. Mc- Clenaghan on Friday to be with the fancily and her mother, Mary McClenaghan, to celebrate Christmas on Sunday. We are pleased to report that Wallace Milligan, who entered University Hospital on Sunday last, was allowed home on Saturday with a good health report. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Davis and Dana of La Salle are spending holidays with her mother, Mrs. Agnes Farrier. 'Hazel Bell of Hamilton is holidaying with Rev. and Mrs. John Bell and Edith Brown of London spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Evans. On Sunday afternoon the YPS, assisted by other members of the church, went carolling around the congregation and shut-ins. Mr. and Mrs. James Wilson of Wingham were Sunday afternoon visitors with Mrs. R. Mowbray and Jane Laidlaw of London spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elroy. Laidlaw. It is sad to report that Annie Kennedy is a patient in Wingham Hospital. Her friends here wish her a speedy recovery. Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Victor Emerson were Nat Thomson of Lucknow and Mrs. and Mrs. Alex Verbeek, Jamie, Michelle, and Julie of Clinton. In total there were Ta in at- tendance and despite the fog many came a long distance such as St. Thomas, London, Kitchen- er, Exeter, Stoney Creek and Val Caron, Northern Ontario. Concert WHITECHURCH — Chalmers Presbyterian Church Sunday Schgol held its Christmas -concert in the Sunday School room on Friday evening with Chairman Phillip Steer. ' The program opened with the singing of carols, `While Shepherds 'watched Their Flocks', and, 'It Came Upon A Midnight Clear'. . A welcome recitation was given ' by Karen Elliott and musical numbers were given by the school. Two skits were per- formed by Karen Young's group and two more by Lore Purdon's grow . Clara Milligan and Karen Youn sang a duet with 'pianist Mrs. n Ross. Mrs. John Bell showed '1ms of the Holy Land and gave n interesting com- mentary. er .three more ,musical numbers were per- formed by the Sunday school the collection was reoawed and the closing recitation was given by Brian Ross. Everyone sang, `Jingle Bells', and as it was finishing jolly old Santa Claus, came bouncing in with his, "J1o, ho, ho", The gifts under the tree were passed out with Santa causing merriment as he delivered them. 4 dl PRIZE WINNERS—The family skating party, held Saturday at the arena and sponsored by the recreation committee, saw winners in three categories. Gwen, Karen and Nathan Laidlaw took first prize for the most colorful family, Leanne Simpson won`or.the most original costume and the youngest child in costume was Julie Lisle, front. The committee presented winners with gifts and provided free hot chocolate to,,all skaters. Sunday school hcIds Christmas concert Whitechurch—The annual Christmas concert was staged by the Sunday School pupils of the United Church here on Friday -evening. As the people, were gathering, music was supplied by Mrs. Garnet Farrier at the organ, pia�Mgt Janet Laidlaw and violinist Jack Whytock. Following' the . singing `:of., a Christmas carol Kim • Laidlaw' gave the•opening recitation. The choir sang twin numbers which were followed by a reading by Karen Beecroft. Jack -Whytock then played violin solos. The play, "Good King . Wenceslas", was prsented with Janet Laidlaw; Jack Whytock, Karen Quipp and Cindy Moore in the main. roles. Robert, Perry, minister at the church, gave the message. Following a recitation by Lisa Chapman a men's choir sang two numbers. Tracey Springer, Nancy Quipp and Kim Laidlaw then presented the play,. "The Broken Star". Mrs. Perry; with the help of a flannelgraph, tar" the Christmas story and the choir sang another carol. The reenactment of the t„x -manger scene was portrayed by Lisa Chapman, Kim Laidlaw, - Nancy Quipp, Cindy Moore and Tracey Springer: A trio coin- prised omprised of Janet Laidlaw, Linda Moore and 'Jack .Whytock fit- tingly ended the presentation with "0 Holy .Night”. "Hiring a Servant" was the title of a play performed by Mrs. Dave Gibb, Mrs. Walter Moore, Cindy Moore, Mrs. Fred Tiffin, Mrs. Art Burrows, Janet Laidlaw and Mrs. Farrier. Janet then played a piano solo and a trio, Cindy Moore, Nancy Quipp and Tracey Springer, sang "Jingle Bells". Mr. and Mrs. Perry presented a skit, followed by a piano solo by Kim Laidlaw and vocal solos by Jim Laidlaw who accompanied himself on the guitar. Karen Laidlaw played a piano solo and a reading was given by Linda Moore. Following' a medley of carols sung by the choir with the congregation joining the choir "f?i"e`7tltfors, thea closing recitation was given by Karen Quipp. Jolly old Santa Claus then arrived with presents and treats for all. • MRS.
