Whitechurch WI holds
Christmas meeting
Whitechurch -A noon dinner at
the Wingham United Church
highlighted the meeting of the
Women's Institute on Monday of
last week. The program which
followed the dinner centred
around a Christmas theme.
President Miss Merle Wilson
extended a welcome to everyone
in the upper room of the church
where the meeting was held. The
minutes were read by the
Assistant secretary, Mrs. Victor
Emerson. The roll was called and
answered by giving a stamped
unsigned Christmas card add
telling of a Christmas celebration
remembered from childhood
days. Going to Grandma's was
the custom most remembered.
Thank -you letters were read
from Mrs. George Fisher. Miss
Wilson read a poem, "Preparing
for Christmas", and Mrs. Nettie
Ross led in the singing of "Jingle
Bells" with Mrs. Garnet Farrier
at the piano. Mrs. Ross then told
the origin of many favorite
Christmas carols. -IVIrs. Kibby,
soloist, sang "Birthday of a
King" and "Away in a Manger",
with Mrs. Conn pianist.
Mrs. Ross introduced the guest
speaker, Mrs. Campbell of
Wingham, who chose as her topic
"Christmas for Home and
Country". She discussed
Christmas of former times and
asked the questions, "What was
it like when Christ was born? Into
what kind of world did God send
His Son?". She read a poem and
closed her talk with prayer. y2
Following the singing ,.of a
carol, Mrs. Ross and Mrs.
Russell Gaunt distributed the
gifts for Secret Sisters. The
meeting closed with everyone
extending the good tidings, "We
Wish You a Merry Christmas!".
