Winghom Juveniles split
first two games of season
Juvenile hockey is back in
Wingham following an absence of
several years and it promises to
be an exciting season.
In its first two scheduled
games the Juvenile team
dropped a 6-4 decision to Port
Elgin and then came back to
defeat Chesley 5-4.
In the season opener played
here the team was down 5-1 at the
end of two periods. Wingham
came on in the third period ann
outscored Port Elgin 3-1 but it
was too little and too late to alter
the outcome of the game.
Murray Gardner had the lone
goal of the first two periods,
assisted by Bill LeVan and Steve
McKay. Mark Passmore got two
goals in the third and Kevin
Carter bent the twine with just 22
seconds left in the game.
According to Coach Larry
Cerson the team is looking for-
ward to a return match with Port
Elgin and plans to play hockey
for three full periods next time
instead of one.
Chesley came to town for the
second game of the Juvenile
season, and the hometowners
managed to carry over the
momentum from the last period
of the Port Elgin game. The
teams were tied at 2-2 at the end
of the first period, with Ed and
Laurie Haines collecting the two
Wingham scores.
A confusing second period
ended with Wingham ahead 4-2
on short-handed goals by Paul
Foxton and Paul Cerson.
Chesley came back to tie the
score in the third period but Tom
MacLean scored on a setup by
Stan Stapleton and Laurie Haines
and Wingham squeaked out a 5-4
victory. The team returns to
Chesley for a rematch Saturday
night.
PeeWees on scoring binge
down Seaforth, Blyth 8-2
In past years the Wingham.
Legion Pee Wees have had dif-
ficulty breaking through the
defence to score goals when they
faced Seaforth. However no one
would have guessed it from their
performance last Thursday,
when they trounced the Seaforth
team 8-2.
Wingham's Doug Wood opened
the scoring in the first period,
with an assist from Dwayne
Jenkins. This was followed by a
goal by Paul Robinson, assisted
by Doug McFarlan.
Starting the second period the
same pair matched up for
another score and then Brett
Cameron made it 4-0 for
Wingham. Steve Nicholson joined
the scoring parade in the second
period, with assists from
Cameron and Tim Brown, and
then made it two in a row when he

Seaforth came out hot in the
third period, opening with a goal
by Jerry Wright assisted by
Captain Dave Mcllwain, Minutes
later Mcllwain again assisted on
a goal by Bill Dale. That was the
end of the comeback, however, as
Rob Strong of Wingham made a
rush through the Seaforth team
for an unassisted goal that made
the final score 8-2.
The Pee Wees scored another 8-
2 win Friday when they met
Blyth for an exhibition game.
Brett Cameron opened the
scoring in the first minute after
taking a pass from Tim 'Brown,
Byron Thompson scored the
second goal on an unassisted
effort at 9:14 of the period and
then Steve Nicholson made it 3-0
for Wingham on a pass from
Cameron.
'Doug Craig replied for Blyth,
assisted by Howatt and Brooks,
before Rob Strong got two more
goals for Wingham, the first
assisted by Jim Dennis. Darrin
Richmond then came through for
Blyth, beating Wingham's rookie
goaltender Mitchell Braun.
The only goal of the second
period was scored by Byron
Thompson, assisted by Dwayne
Jenkins.
Nicholson opened the scoring in
the third period, assisted by
Cameron and Brown. Strong then
topped it off with his turd goal of
the game, giving hi the hat
trick and Wingham another 8-2
win.
With the experience of the
second; year players added to the
spark of the rookies and Coach
Larry Lane's guidance, the
Legion Pee Wees are' certainly
getting the season off to a good
start.
