GOBR. its --- The Hislop and
Number 10 Municipal Drain
reports were provisionally
adapted by Howick Township
Council here on Friday.
Engineer Rdy 1V{cBride, of
Maitland Engineering Services
Company Limited of Wingham,
the firm looking after both
drains, briefly read each `report
to the landowners involved.
The' Hislop Municipal Drain
covers an area on Lots 11 to 20 on
con. C, fronts on Highway $6 and
crosses into Grey Township
emptying into the Little Maitland
River.
The entire work suggested by
Maitland Engineering will be in
an open ditch and includes a 42
inch diameter cubiert crossing
Highway 86.
There were four citizens who
are included in the assesment of
the drain at the meeting.
Engineer McBride told those
present at the monthly session of
council that a fair amount of .the
work to be done is in bush area.
He said that he had su$Beefecl
previously that the farmers who
wanted to harvest the trees
should do so before zany work
started on the drain.
One farmer, George Adams,
said he had cut down trees on his
property last December, and he
felt he should be compensated for
his work.
Mr. McBride said that when he
first made the suggestion, he did
not mean the farmer would be
compensated, rather the farmer
could harvest the trees.
It was decided that a com-
pensation figure around $200 to
$600 would be decided for Mr.
Adams during tendering. Mr.
McBride said that in the future
trees should be left alone because
the only compensation would be
firewood for the farmer.
The drain, consisting of a main
drain and two branches has an
estimated total cost of ap-
proximately $65,000, The court of
revision will be the next step.
NUMBER 10
No. 10 drain is located in the
southeast section of the township,
in the area south of Fordwich.
It is the largest drain ever
undertaken by his firm , Mr.
McBride said, and consists of a
main drain and branches A to J.
In their petition, the lan-
downers requested that the drain
be repaired and extended in some
areas. Mr. McBride proposed
that the drain be repaired and
replaced in some locations and
include open and closed portions.
It was suggested that tendering
for the drain be held off until
another drain presently being
surveyed in the area was com-
pleted so the two could be ten-
dered at once. No final decision
The drain will cost an
ated $66,000.
Mr. McBride will be writing to

one landowner, Blake Gibson,
informing him that other
assessed owners will not be
responsible for payment if his
privately owned bridge located
over the proposed drain washes
out in two or three years.
In other business, clerk -
treasurer Wesley Ball is to
arrange a meeting this month
with Dr. J. K. MacGregor of
Wingham regarding his medical
services in Gorrie.
Council accepted the livestock
valuer's report of the loss of
livestock by William B, Doig and
that he be reimbursed $100 for his
loss.
General accounts totalling
$86,264.76 including road ac-
counts of $40,901.63 for October
were approved.
The inaugural meeting for the
incoming council was set for Dec.

Southern Ont.
Rabies nay increase ' above
normal levels in parts of southern
Ontario in the coming months,
Natural Resources ' Minister
James A. C. Auld warns. The
1978-79 season is the, 10th year
since the disease last occurred,
and there was a major outbreak
before that in 1958.59.
"If this 10 -year cycle recurs, a
peak can be expected this fall and
winter," Mr. Auld noted.
Outbreaks of rabies have al-
ready occurred in Perth, Bruce,
Carleton, Frontenac, Grey; Lan-
ark, Leeds, Lincoln and Renfrew
Counties, with red fox and striped
skunk being the major carriers.

or veterinarian should be notified
