gcial. by Paul Wells. The
Monarchs jumped into a 2-0 lead
at 14:57 of the period as Jim
Wendt beat. Royal netminder
Keith Elston. . The. Royals
. narrowed the gap to 2-1 with less
than -threeminutes remaining in
the opening frame on a goal by
Bob Hillis assisted by Bernie
Haines and Don Burley. Score at
the end of one period of play:
Monarchs 2, Royals 1.
The second period saw plenty
of scoring chances but only one
goal, that by the Royals, evening
the score at 2. Al Dickson was
credited with that marker,
assists going to Murray, Black
and Rick Jacklin". Although the
Royals scored the only goal of the -
period, the real standout was
Royal goaltender Keith Elston,
who kinked out 17 shots in the
period, many from close rarige:'

iod and finally at 6:25 of the final
frame 'Monarch Dave Schellen-
berger was able to beat Elston
with a high shot that deflected off
a Royal player.
. The Royals continued to press
for the equalizer but, with only
four minutes remaining; the
Monarchs' Wendt Scored his sec-
ond of the night and the
Monarchs headed home with a 4-2
victory.
From the stands . . . Certainly
the star of this game for the
Royals - was netminder Keith
Elston, who time and time again
robbed Mildmay shooters. . .
The Royals also missed the
scoring punch from their big line
of Gary ,Lisle, Neil Biernan, and
Russ Jones as the Mildmay
checking kept them•pretty much
at bay. • • • • .' •

MONARCHS 7 ROYALS 3
The Mildmay Monarchs scored
four power play goals and coast-
ed to a 7-3 victory over the
Wingham Royals Sunday night in
Mildmay.
The Royals opened the scoring
at the 1:27 mark of the first per-
iod on a goal by Rick Jaeldin
from Larry Robinson. Mildmay's
Don Moran tied it at 7:02 of the
period and the Monarchs took the
lead at 18:14 when Keith Lerch
• scored from Moran and Bob
Wilkinson. This lead lasted only
four seconds as the Royals rush-
ed back to tie the game at 2 on a
goal by Al Dickson from Russ
Jones. Score at the end of the first
period: Royals 2, Monarchs 2.
The Monarchs scored two un-
answered, goals in the second
period, both on the power play, to
take a 4-2 lead. The first goal was
notched by Gam Lorenz and the
second by Jim Wendt. •
Mildmay scored twice more in
the third period before the
Royals' Neil Bieman scored at
12:31' from Jacklin and Dickson.
Bob Wilkinson scored the Mon-
archs' final goal and fourth
power play effort to send the
Royals home without a point in
this home and home weekend
series.
From the Stands . . . The
Royals downfall in this encounter
was their penalty killing as the
Monarchs took advantage of the
extra attacker for four of their
goals
Despite the lOss it was nice to
see Bob 'Armstrong and Chuck
Gibson in the line-up for the first
time this year. These two play-
ers, with more game experience,
should provide some added scor-
ing threats to the Royal attack...
Don't forget the next Royal
nome game is, this Friday night
at 8'30. With,' your admittance
ticket you will be eligible to win a
$25 grocery voucher from the
IGA in Wingham. The Royals
have been supplying some excit
ing hockey action on Friday
nights, and deserve some fine
support from local hockey fans.
Following is a schedule of the
Royals remaining home games:
