McKenzie., a bachelor
arti7 er in rainless Township, left
A sum 91 mu ey.to that school to
be used in , furthering the
education of young men through
loans and bursaries, Mr. Ritter
said. He included a stipulation
the, students had to come from
either Lucknow or Culross or
Kinloss townships in Bruce
County or from East or West
Wawanosh or Ashfield townships
in Huron.
However when the Lucknow
high school closed in 1969 and the
students were sent here the
school districts were changed
and the whole matter of the
endowment fund ended up before
the courts. Thereit stayed until
the Lucknow newspaper began
running editorials deploring the
situation, Mr. Ritter reported.
Finally trustees were appointed
and the fund was released.
Most of the limelight during the
commencement ceremonies fell
on Harry Jaretzke, a quiet and
unassuming student from East
Wawanosh Township. In addition
to the McKenzie fund award he
took home no fewer than five
other scholarships and awards
and also, as the top student in
Grade 13 last year, served as
valedictorian for the outgoing
class.
Harry, the son of Mr: and Mrs.
G. R. Jaretzke, kept the audience
chuckling as he related a con-
versation he had with another
student during his first days at
university, during which he tried
to get across to the city lad just
where East Wawanosh is located.
He also recalled some highlights
of his days at Madill, bringing
some knowing laughs from the
audience which then rewarded
him with a standing .ovation:
Among the other awards he
took home were those for general
proficiency, donated by R. P.
Ritter; proficiency inchemistry,
donated by W. H. French; the W.
S. Hall Memorial Scholarship in
Science; and the. Stanley Door.
Systems Ltd. Scholarship.
He was alio-Atte of one of. fine
Ontario scholars at the school
last year, the others being
Michael Milosevic, James Black-
well, Lori Moir and Janene
Purdon.

scholarship, James Blackwell

ey Nancy Sly, Manager Operator Services
The holiday season is fast approaching and
we at Bell Canada hope you will follow the tips
provided here to facilitate your long distance
phoning.
Call early to get your Christmas message
through to friends and relatives. Remember the
most calls are placed Christmas Eve, Christmas
Day and New Year's Day but it is still heavy the
rest of the Yuletide season.
Because our networks and those overseas •
are designed to handle normal business day
volumes and not holiday overloads, demand will
at times exceed capacities.
Telephone numbers should be secured well
in advance of the holiday season, leaving the
network free to complete as many calls as
possible. During special days there is limited
directory assistance service provided in some •
overseas countries.
Dial your operator now, without charge, and
ask for the Overseas operator to get the number
you need, if you don't have it already. Your call
will go through quicker when it is actually made.
Heavy volume prevents us from accepting
advance bookings for Christmas calls.
Try and avoid peak calling periods:.10 a.m. to '
noon and 2 to 4 p.m. on business days and early .
afternoon and early evening Sunday '
The number of calls will exceed the telephone•
circuits available so you may not get through
your first try.
There are no special discounts on Christmas
Day and New Year's Day calls overseas.
Remember, place your calls early and have a •
safe, happy and healthy.Christmas season.
