new telgrave subdivision
East Wawanosh has approved
in principle the new Belgrave
subdivision planned by Lorne
Humphrey but details of the pro-
ject remain to be worked out.
At its meeting Dec. 15 township
council instructed its solicitor,
Robert Campbell, to draw up a
subdivision agreement setting
out conditions to be met in the
development: The agreement,
primarily concerned with pro-
vision of services in a new sub-
diVision, then comes back to
'council for final approval. The
developer must also prepare a
secondary plan for township -and
Ontario Municipal Board ap-
proval.
Mr. Humphrey, Mr. Campbell
and project engineer Andy Mc-
Bride of Maitland Engineering,
Wingham, attended the council
meeting 'to explain the develop-
ment, which will occupy about 25
acres west off Highway 4 w Bel -
grave. Thirty-eight single family
dwellings are planned, with a
block set aside for multi -family
units and another commercial
block. A small park will adjoin
the present park.
The three streets in the sub-
division will be named Owen
Crescent, Johnstone Crescent
and Jordan Street. Mr. Hum-
phrey proposed the names, which
he said were those of the farmers
who_ originally owned the site,
and council approved them.
In other business at the meet-
ing council approved a 30 acre
severance for William Empey.
Mr. Empey applied for the
severance of the plot in the north
half of Lot 28, Concession 3, to
build a retirement home. The
land is presently bush, council
was told.
According to a letter from the
ministry of culture and recrea-
tion a $13,085.46 grant is on the
way for the repairs- to the Bel -
grave arena. Further -funds for
the repairs should be corning
from Wintario.
Council approved payment of
$300 to Schultz Bros. for rent of
the dump site and a further $298
for snowblowing and bulldozing
at the dump.
,A grant of $500 was approved
for the Huron Federation of Agri-
culture, as in , previous years.
There was some discussion of the
Ontario Federation of Agricul-
ture's recent proposal for a
check -off system of collecting
dues, with a levy assessed
against each farmer who could
then assign it to the farm
organization of his or her choice.
Councillors Neil Vincent and
John Currie both expressed
opposition to the proposal.
Jack Taylor appeared before
council to request a street light be
installed on the new hydro pole in
front of his new store in Belgrave.
Council will contact Morris
Township with the request.
Mrs. Isobel Arbuckle reported
to council from the Wingham and
District Hospital board, noting
the hospital has been opeating
Smoothly and within its budget.
She also reported it has been
quite busy, with more than the
usual number of beds filled
during the past summer. 'Mrs.
Arbuckle represents East Wawa -
nosh on the board.
Council's first meeting in the
new year has been set for Jan. 3
at 11 a.m.
11.

JOY, SHARING

Miss Donna de Vos of Edmon-
ton, Alberta, arrived home Fri-
day to spend three weeks vaca-
tion with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. William de Vos and family
of RR 1, Bluevale.
Friends and neighbors are
pleased to hear Mrs. Aart de Vos
is to get the cast off her foot .
before Christmas.
Anyone wanting to travel on the
B line of Turnberry will find it
very rough from C. Moffatt's
through to Highway 87; part is
impossible except by foot or boat
as the bridge is also out, Resi-
dents look forward to the new
highway when the job is finished.
Mrs. Vera MacKenzie, Lucan,
spent the past week with Mr. and
Mrs. Keith Johnston and family
and on Friday evening Mr. and
Mrs. Grant MacKenzie and Mary
Ellen of Harriston were supper
guests at the same home.
