PLETCH ELECTRIC
CHRISTMAS CONCERT
On Monday evening the annual
Christmas Concert was held at
Turnberry. The concert began
with three numbers sung by the
senior choir. Grade Six and Seven
then entertained the capacity
audience with two Christmas
legends — Baboushka, a Russian
legend and the Huron Christmas
Carol. A gymnastics display
under the capable direction of
Mr. Lisle followed. After Mr.
Sinnamon's grade five class
entertained with ukelele selec-
tions the audience were treated to
an hilarious play "The Pumpkin-
ville Christmas Concert" staged
by grades 7-8. The concert con-
cluded with the Christmas Story
a combined effort of grades 5-8.
WEEK OF DEC. 19-22
Our school has been a beehive
of activity this week. Monday
saw the final preparations for the
concert. On Tuesday we were
entertained by the grade four
class. Their assembly centred
around Christmas legends and -
was thoroughly enjoyed by all. In
the afternoon we were enter-
tained by Mr. Elgie's drama
class of F. E. Madill Secondary
School. On Wednesday our school
had another hot dog sale. Finally
Thursday saw all the children in
the gym watching a film entitled
"Snoopy Come Home". In the
afternoon the children exchanged
gifts and went home at 14:00
hours for a well deserved Christ-
mas holiday.
CANADA FITNESS AWARDS
Each morning all the children
continue to run in the gym as part
of their conditioning for the
Canada Fitness Awards pro-

cycling and conservation. We are
still continuing to collect and
would appreciate any help from
interested people in the com-
munity.

A Merry Christmas
to you too, Standish
A Christmas card for Wing -
ham? Yes, indeed, and it's a
dandy.
This card arrived late last
week from Wingham's sister city
in Michigan. It bears the signa-
tures of 372 Standish residents
who join in wishing their friends
in Wingham a very merry Christ-
mas and happy new year.
The card will be on display for
all to see on the library bulletin
board in the town hall.
The Christmas wishes are the
newest development in the grow-
ing relationship between Wing -
ham and its new sister city. The
association began last summer
when a letter from Standish pro-
posed the link between the two
• towns.
Wingham agreed to become a
sister city and at the end of
August a delegation of 16 people
from Standish paid a visit and
were entertained here.
Later a sister city organization
was founded in Wingham with
John Strong as president, Elayne
Hinton] as vice-president, Norma
Strong as secretary and Judy
Nevery, treasurer.
At the end of October, 23 Wing -
ham residents travelled to Stan-
dish and were lavishly welcomed
with a parade, banquet, parties
and tours. Further contacts be-
tween the two communities are
planned.
In the meantime, we are sure
everyone in Wingham would like
to join in wishing a very merry
Christmas to their Standish
friends.
